Quest Software Boosts Developer and Administrator Productivity with Launch of Toad for MySQL; Quest Toad® for MySQL Allows Faster Database Development and More Efficient Administration
Business Wire, July 19, 2005
IRVINE, Calif. -- Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and infrastructure management solutions, today announced the launch of version 1.0 of Quest Toad(R) for MySQL, a database development and administration solution that increases user productivity with features for SQL development and database management. As one of the first vendors to offer database management solutions for MySQL databases, Quest has recently received MySQL Network certification for Toad for MySQL. Quest has also been named 2005 MySQL Partner of the Year, a MySQL Platinum Partner and a charter member of the MySQL Network Certified Partner Program.
Toad for MySQL is Quest's first product specifically built for the MySQL community of developers and DBAs. With Toad for MySQL, developers and administrators can rapidly create and execute queries, automate database object management and develop SQL code more efficiently. It also provides utilities for users to manage projects, import/export data, create users and manage database security. In conjunction with Toad for MySQL, Quest supports Toad users by hosting an interactive community of peers and experts.
According to Gartner, "By 2008, Open Source Software (OSS) applications will directly compete with closed-source products in every software infrastructure market, and by 2010, Global 2000 IT organizations will consider open-source products in 80 percent of their infrastructure-focused software investments and 25 percent of business software investments. OSS will increase pressure on traditional vendors to more aggressively innovate, improve quality and drive higher value." (1)
"Quest Toad for MySQL is a major addition to the large and growing ecosystem of market-leading applications available to MySQL developers," said Zack Urlocker, vice president of marketing for MySQL AB. "MySQL is being rapidly adopted in enterprise production environments, where productivity is crucial. Now, thousands of Toad users can easily incorporate MySQL into their IT infrastructures using a familiar and proven database development and administration product."
Toad for MySQL leverages Quest's deep expertise with database development solutions and the proven technology of Quest Toad for Oracle, which is considered the de-facto standard for Oracle database development and administration. Following the success of the Toad for MySQL preview release, this 1.0 version of Toad for MySQL includes several enhancements including:
--A customizable SQL Editor with advanced filtering, sorting and grouping of data as well as multiple options for organizing the result sets which reduces development time for MySQL database code;
--Data grids including a configurable interface that offers enhanced flexibility to view and save data;
--An adaptable database browser that eases user ability to customize and filter the browser view across multiple databases and servers;
--A tab-oriented interface which allows for a quick connection to and simplified view of the data;
--Knowledge Xpert, an extensive technical resource database that provides insights, database analysis information and working examples to developers for immediate knowledge exchange.
"This year has been a notable one for Quest's MySQL activities. First, Quest was recognized by MySQL AB as Partner of the Year and now Toad for MySQL is certified for MySQL Network," said Juli Ackerman, vice president, database management solutions, Quest Software. "Toad for MySQL is the first of five planned certifications. We are definitely encouraged by the response to the Toad for MySQL preview release last year which accumulated thousands of users to date."
Quest Software provides two user communities designed to support Quest solutions for MySQL and help acclimate MySQL Network users to the platform. The Toad community provides a forum in which users have open communication with Quest Software developers and product managers and provide recommendations on product enhancements. Additionally, with over 12,000 users, the Quest Pipelines are available to anyone seeking database development and administration information from experts on major database platforms.
