E-Mail Security Leaders CipherTrust and PGP Corporation to Deliver Integrated Appliance-Based Compliance Solutions; Strategic Alliance of Market-Leading Gateway and Encryption Products to Deliver Compelling Value for Joint Customers
Business Wire, July 20, 2005
ATLANTA & PALO ALTO, Calif. -- CipherTrust, Inc., the leader in messaging security, today announced it has formed a strategic alliance with PGP Corporation, the global customer standard for enterprise encryption and digital-signature solutions, to create an integrated e-mail security solution that changes the economics of regulatory compliance. Businesses of all sizes will be able to meet the stringent internal security and government regulation requirements with a combination of CipherTrust(R)'s hardened e-mail security gateway and PGP(R) Universal's automated encryption and key management architecture. This integrated solution will ship as a standalone bundled appliance for simplicity of deployment and implementation.
The joint offering will allow the companies' combined enterprise customer base of more than 30,000 public and private sector companies to quickly implement a compliance solution that meets internal audit and risk management requirements. By making PGP Universal's automatic e-mail encryption, decryption, digital signatures, and key management an integral component of CipherTrust's IronMail(R) Privacy Architecture (IPA), customers can implement industry-leading secure e-mail gateway and encryption technologies. The joint offering enables customers to benefit from proven integration and joint policy configuration as well as single point of purchase, deployment and support.
"This alliance between technology leaders in the gateway and encryption markets is a big win for customers looking to meet compliance requirements with our world-class policy engine and PGP Universal's industry-standard encryption capabilities," said Jay Chaudhry, CEO, Chairman and Founder of CipherTrust. "The combined CipherTrust-PGP Corporation offering will provide businesses a bundled appliance-based solution for both policy and remediation. This alliance is further evidence of CipherTrust's focus on bringing innovative, market-leading solutions to protect critical e-mail infrastructure from inbound, outbound and mail server attacks."
Customers will deploy the joint CipherTrust and PGP Universal appliances in the gateway to screen e-mail for content that violates internal security policies. Messages are identified as confidential by the CipherTrust policy engine then automatically encrypted and securely delivered by PGP Universal. This joint solution provides customers the regulatory compliance they need without disrupting the routine delivery of e-mail. The solution operates automatically and transparently both to the e-mail system and e-mail users.
"Customers across the world have asked us for an integrated CipherTrust and PGP solution," said Phillip Dunkelberger, President and CEO of PGP Corporation. "Combining CipherTrust's policy engine and our automated PGP Universal encryption architecture gives customers the best possible regulatory protection. This combined solution offers broad, standards-based functionality to the large installed base using both CipherTrust and PGP security solutions."
CipherTrust and PGP Corporation - The Last Line of Defense
As evidenced by the high-profile privacy breaches suffered by credit bureaus, banks, and retail organizations, the complexity of protecting intellectual property and private information remains high. Corporate risk awareness has become more acute as such regulations as Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act come into force. A recent Osterman Research study indicated, "The vast majority of smaller and larger organizations consider it important to establish a secure communications/encryption capability when sending e-mail to business partners or members of their supply chain, when communicating with remote employees and when e-mailing to customers."
Both private and public-sector organizations need a "last line of defense" to protect sensitive and private information from leaking through the external boundary via e-mail and create a regulatory violation. The combined CipherTrust and PGP solution meets the requirements of customers of all sizes. Easy to set up and administer, IronMail and PGP Universal require no user intervention, so corporate policies are enforced automatically. Organizations are no longer at the whim of employees needing to hit a "send secure" button or figuring out onerous key management processes.
"As outbound filtering and encryption become increasingly important for compliance, an integrated, secure e-mail gateway eases customer deployments," said Brian Burke, research manager, Security Products for IDC, a leading market research firm. "Both CipherTrust and PGP Corporation share a strong market presence in their respective markets so the bundled solution should be attractive to customers."
CipherTrust and PGP Corporation - Market Leaders
Based on the most recent IDC market share report, CipherTrust's IronMail has a larger e-mail security appliance market share than its next six competitors combined. Awarded the SC Magazine Global 2005 award for e-mail security, IronMail scans every outbound message, enabling the enforcement of detailed policies for encrypting messages based upon hundreds of different attributes, including sender, recipient, content, domain, groups, attachments, etc.
