Seed Media Group Adds Scientific and Political Pundits to Editorial Team

Business Wire, July 25, 2005

NEW YORK -- Seed Media Group today announced the addition of political blogger Chris Mooney and editor Christopher Carbone to its editorial team.

Chris Mooney has been named Washington Correspondent for Seed Media Group's media properties, including Seed magazine, its imminent news website, mobile news network and broadcast properties. Mr. Mooney is the author of the forthcoming book The Republican War on Science (Basic Books, 2005, $24.95). Prior to his new role at Seed Media Group, Mr. Mooney built up a loyal readership and took on controversial topics at the intersection of science and politics on his blog, ChrisCMooney.com.

Christopher Carbone has been named Managing Editor of Seed magazine, replacing Lindsay Borthwick who was recently named Director of Content Development for Seed Media Group. In his new role, Mr. Carbone will be responsible for directing the day-to-day editorial operations of the newly redesigned publication, which lands on shelves this September. Prior to Seed, Mr. Carbone was Associate Copy Editor at Organic Style, Copy Editor at Simon & Schuster, and Managing Editor at New York Press.

Seed, the magazine that shook up the publishing industry with its bold coverage of the emerging global science culture, announced last week that it has closed a round of funding and has formed Seed Media Group LLC, a new media company focused on expanding its content and brand to various forms of media.

As part of its growth strategy, Seed Media Group will develop original science content aimed at a general audience for distribution across a number of media channels, including magazines, books, newspapers, online, topical blogs, digital, film and television. Seed Media Group's endeavors will present science in the same culturally articulate and accessible style that earned Seed a prestigious UTNE Independent Press Award in 2004 and the support of leading advertisers.
