Plaxo Extends Personal Information Management to Mozilla Thunderbird; Thunderbird Extension Provides Seamless and Automatic Synchronization of Contact Information Across Multiple Platforms and Email Clients

Business Wire, July 26, 2005

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Plaxo(R), Inc., creator of the online service that keeps people connected to their personal information, today unveiled a public beta of the company's popular contact management service for the Mozilla Thunderbird(TM) email client. Dubbed Plaxo Toolbar for Thunderbird, the beta allows Plaxo members to synchronize their existing Plaxo address book with a Thunderbird address book.

As part of a continued effort to extend its service to various platforms and email clients, Plaxo now supports full integration with Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. In addition, Plaxo members can build their Plaxo address book by importing contacts from their Netscape, Palm, Yahoo! Mail, and Hotmail accounts.

"Plaxo aims to provide our members with the tools they need to connect to the people and information that matter to them," said Todd Masonis, founder and vice president of products for Plaxo. "The Thunderbird client provides Plaxo members with yet another option to have consistent and up-to-date information across multiple locations and accounts, as well as able to access their contact information from their preferred platform and on their favored email client."

Introduced in December 2004, Thunderbird is a free, open-source and cross-platform mail client for all major operating systems including Windows, Linux and Mac OS X. Lightweight, fast and extensible, Thunderbird is popular for its ability to stop junk mail and to help prevent viruses. Available in over 30 different languages, Thunderbird is in use by millions of people worldwide.

"Thunderbird strives to provide people with a safe, fast and more productive email experience," said Scott MacGregor, lead engineer for Thunderbird, at the Mozilla Foundation. "Thunderbird's open platform provides developers with the ability to build extensions to Thunderbird that enhance the user experience."

Plaxo is used by millions of individuals in over 83 countries, and enjoys a wide following in academia, government, and both small and large businesses, including 98 of the Fortune 100 companies. As Plaxo becomes increasingly popular, people often find that their friends and colleagues are already members, creating a network of people whose contact information is always up-to-date through the seamless address book updating that occurs between linked members. Plaxo not only automatically updates contact information, but it also synchronizes users' Outlook calendar, tasks and notes to ensure that people have access to the most current information anywhere, and at all times.
