FalconStor Announces VirtualTape Library Support for Sun Solaris 10 Operating System; FalconStor's First VTL Based on 64-Bit Architecture, and First Time Available on Solaris OS
Business Wire, July 28, 2005
MELVILLE, N.Y. -- FalconStor Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: FALC), a leading developer of network storage software solutions, today announced that it has extended its VirtualTape Library (VTL) solution to include support for Sun Microsystems' Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System (OS).
Solaris 10 is an advanced UNIX(R) OS with a flexible, modular architecture designed to grow to meet the demands of today's enterprise environments. The Solaris 10 OS reflects the latest in network and application performance, file systems management, and security. FalconStor's VTL, in its first version based on 64-bit extension technology, and available for the first time on the Solaris OS, provisions high-speed disk as virtual tape drives/libraries to backup servers attached to a SAN.
"Sites buy in to 64-bit computing because it allows more data into memory, and provides faster computation, more precise analysis, and advanced features such as rapid data encryption and compression. Additionally, its native high-end applications can produce larger amounts of data accessed as a single file, which can exceed one terabyte in size," said Mike Karp, senior analyst with Enterprise Management Associates. "FalconStor's VTL technology offers tremendous value for such environments, and will readily answer any backup and recovery challenges associated with managing such data."
"The needs of customers must always come first, and we are looking forward to leveraging our solutions with FalconStor's VTL to support Solaris 10 in our VORTECHX Tape Library Storage Appliance," said David Vena, director of sales & CMO, VORTECHX Applied Technologies, a Certified Sun Microsystems Strategic iForce Commercial and Federal Government Solutions Provider. "The 64-bit architecture of the Sun Fire(TM) AMD-Operton platform promises tremendous system performance gains that will allow us to drive further cost efficiencies and simplify the management of storage backup for our customers."
FalconStor's VirtualTape Library software consolidates the management of backup resources while enhancing the reliability of backup operations and accelerating the speed of recovery. FalconStor's VTL leverages and provisions industry standard high-speed disk as virtual tape drives/libraries to backup servers attached to a SAN via Fibre Channel (FC), iSCSI or NDMP protocol to maximize performance and return on investment.
