National Football League Star and Harvard Business School Student Lance Johnstone Teams with SwipeUSA to Tackle East Coast Financial Services Market
Business Wire, July 7, 2005
PHILADELPHIA & SAN FRANCISCO -- With more defensive sacks than any active Minnesota Vikings player, Lance Johnstone brings his snap to SwipeUSA -- a leading ATM management firm -- to lead its east coast expansion. He joins an all-star team from San Francisco as the firm's Vice President of Business Development.
With a number of financial kiosks throughout the West, SwipeUSA is making a solid commitment to expansion with this appointment. Johnstone and senior management will concentrate on expanding in retail spaces to deliver complete banking solutions to urban markets. Currently, SwipeUSA provides automated financial solutions via machines deployed at consumer accessible locations, such as Sony Metreon, Burger King, Mel's Diner and Planet Juice franchises across the nation.
The former Temple University football star maintains active community ties to his hometown of Philadelphia that are of particular interest to SwipeUSA. "Swipe is revolutionizing the banking experience, and wants to bring the dignity of banking to urban areas across the U.S.," said CEO Ron Christensen. "Johnstone's commitment and familiarity with the realities of the urban market are crucial to our success."
In addition to a successful career as an NFL defensive star, Johnstone is the founder of his own charitable organization, the Lance Johnstone Foundation, and maintains several entrepreneurial and investment interests in Philadelphia. Lance was one of thirty NFL players to enroll in an Executive Education Program at Harvard Business School designed for players to develop their post-playing careers supported by the NFL and NFLPA.
In his new capacity, the 6 foot 4 inch newly named VP of Business Development looks forward to driving SwipeUSA's expansion east. "One common complaint I hear about players in the NFL is that they'll go wherever the money is...now that I'm working for an ATM management firm, I guess you could say they're right," he said half-jokingly.
On a more serious note, the Philadelphia native added, "As a pass rusher in the NFL, when I see an opportunity, I have to make the most of it. Working in the financial services industry is no different. I'm excited to be a part of the team at SwipeUSA that shares my values with respect to community, charitable giving and hard work."
