MORRISVILLE, N.C. -- Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of telecommunications products for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced enhancements to its market-leading Tekelec 6000 VoIP Application Server (Tekelec 6000) to help meet the growing market demand for VoIP services and make it easier for operators to create differentiated services to attract and retain customers.
The enhanced Tekelec 6000 R5.6 includes:

--TimesTen database integration: Improves reliability and performance without changing call- processing implementation or administrator options.
--System Application Program Interface (API) improvements: Integration of Web Services/Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) into the Tekelec 6000 Database Agent eliminates extra Web servers and simplifies developer interfaces and error handling.
--Web Portal enhancements: Sleek new appearance, Remember-Me login and improvements to the Call Log, Directories and VOISS Assistant improve end-user satisfaction.
--Administration and Maintenance enhancements: Includes new SIP Registrar Wizard to enable segmenting SIP traffic using different ports; improvements to Internet Protocol (IP) Link bandwidth control and enhanced Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Polling.
In addition to these enhancements, Tekelec will feature a demonstration of Tekelec 6000's superior wireless centrex portal over a Wi-Fi PDA, a next-generation console operator tool for hosted receptionist/administration capabilities and a Tekelec-created SIP softphone during SUPERCOMM, June 7-9, 2005, in Tekelec's booth #64008.
"The Tekelec 6000, which has been recognized as a SUPERCOMM(R) 2005 SUPERQuest Award runner-up for superior achievement in public and private network design and operations, consistently has outperformed competitors in head-to-head lab evaluations conducted by incumbent and competitive operators," said Tricia Hosek, president and general manager of Tekelec's Network Switching Group. "We are continually improving our solutions to make them easier, faster and more cost-effective for customers to deliver revenue-building VoIP services. More than 75 service providers around the world have chosen the Tekelec 6000 either integrated with our other switching products or as a stand-alone solution to introduce new, next-generation business and residential services."
In addition, Tekelec has selected tekVizion Labs(TM) as the preferred testing partner for the Tekelec 6000. tekVizion Labs will provide an extension to Tekelec's own testing facilities, providing more choices for endpoint certification, speeding up the testing process and enabling operators to introduce new products faster. tekVizion Labs provides remote testing for pre-certification or ad-hoc test scenarios and on-site testing for formal certification. Certification can be provided between two products or in a multi-product solution.
