Sharp's Integrated Solar Roof Modules Offer Efficient Installation and Enhanced Aesthetics; New Roof Modules Are an Attractive and High-Powered Option for Residential Solar Systems
Business Wire, June 1, 2005
SAN FRANCISCO -- Sharp Electronics Corporation, the U.S. sales and marketing subsidiary of Sharp Corporation, offers homeowners an attractive new option for residential roofing with its new ND-60RU1 60-watt solar roof tile modules. Designed for new construction or refurbished roofs, these Flat-Panel Roof Modules are an ideal combination of aesthetics and superb performance.
"A solar energy system helps consumers conserve natural resources and save on utility bills by generating clean, renewable electricity," said Ron Kenedi, general manager, Sharp's Solar Systems Division. "Our new 60-watt solar modules enable a highly-efficient and easy-to-install system with an aesthetic appeal that is currently unmatched by other modules."
Sharp's new solar modules lay flat on the rooftop, interlocking smoothly with standard roof tiles for a clean, smooth look. They are compatible with most shapes and sizes of roof tiles used in new residential construction, with one module replacing five standard concrete tiles. The modules are quick and simple to install, screwing directly onto the existing roof battens so that no additional framing materials or roof penetrations are required. Like concrete tiles, they can be replaced individually without removing surrounding roofing material.
The high-powered modules feature an anti-reflective coating that increases the absorption of light under low-light conditions, expanding operation earlier and later into the day than other modules. They are designed to deflect water and are resistant to moisture, impact and high winds. Constructed for extended outdoor use, they have a 25-year limited warranty on their power output so homeowners can depend on their system's longevity.
Sharp Corporation has expanded its solar cell production output to 400 megawatts (from 315 megawatts) per year to meet the burgeoning demand both in Japan and internationally. In October 2003, Sharp opened a solar panel assembly operation at its manufacturing facility in Memphis, TN to meet the increasing demand for solar energy in the U.S. The solar manufacturing facility is assembling 165- and 167-watt solar panels for residential and commercial installations.
