Frost & Sullivan Honours SAS Health and Life Sciences for Exceptional Business Development Strategy Leadership

Business Wire, June 13, 2005

LONDON -- The 2005 Frost & Sullivan Business Development Strategy Leadership Award is conferred on SAS (www.sas.com), in recognition of SAS' well-defined, growth strategies enabling it to become a leader in the global bioinformatics market.

"SAS has made a considerable impact on the global bioinformatics market," notes Frost & Sullivan Healthcare Analyst, Raghavendra Chitta. "SAS' established, visionary and innovative teams in R&D, sales and marketing, combined with strong solution portfolios and definitive growth strategies, have set SAS in good stead." Mr Chitta continues, "By applying its core expertise in business intelligence and analytics to the drug discovery markets, SAS has, within a remarkably short time, significantly expanded its presence and market share in the bioinformatics sector."

Today, most Fortune 500 Life Science companies benefit from SAS' core technology within R&D and other departments. Consistent with SAS' emphasis on Health and Life Sciences R&D, the company has developed solutions to serve the drug discovery and development process. Pioneering software within scientific discovery include SAS(R) Microarray, SAS(R) Genetic Marker and SAS(R) Proteomics and SAS(R) Drug Development within the clinical arena.

The launch of the latest version of SAS' suite of bioinformatics solutions -- the SAS(R) Scientific Discovery Solutions -- has given SAS the unique distinction of being the only company capable of offering end-to-end technology to drug companies, with SAS solutions in scientific discovery and clinical research through to commercialisation and beyond.

"SAS has consistently demonstrated reliability and has instilled confidence among its Health and Life Sciences customers world-wide," says Mr. Chitta. "SAS has been set apart by its unflinching support of data standards and key participation in the formulation of these data standards. For example, SAS has developed technology to support the CDISC (Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium) data models and is recognised as the de facto standard for electronic submissions to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA)."

"SAS has been a long term player in the Life Sciences market and is committed to the development of technology to support international data standards," said Dr Karen Miller, SAS Business Development Manager Health and Life Sciences. "In addition to this, SAS' active movement into new areas such as drug discovery analytics shows SAS' continued commitment to the industry."
