Franklin Resources, Inc. Names Craig S. Tyle General Counsel to Succeed Murray L. Simpson

SAN MATEO, Calif. -- Franklin Resources, Inc. (Franklin Templeton Investments) (NYSE:BEN) today announced that Craig S. Tyle will become general counsel and senior vice president succeeding current general counsel, Murray L. Simpson. Tyle will be joining Franklin Templeton Investments in September and relocating to San Mateo, CA at that time. Simpson will become a senior advisor to the company when Tyle becomes general counsel.
Tyle is currently a partner at Shearman & Sterling LLP in Washington D.C. Prior to that, he was general counsel for the Investment Company Institute (ICI) from 1997 through 2004 where he oversaw the Securities and Financial Regulation, Tax and Pension, and International practice groups. He developed industry positions on legislative and regulatory proposals and was responsible for the drafting of Congressional testimony and submissions to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and other federal, state and foreign regulatory agencies. Prior to serving as general counsel, Tyle held various positions in the ICI's legal department, from assistant general counsel to senior counsel of Securities and Financial Regulation. Tyle graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School.
