Elluminate Delivers Live Interaction to California State University Northridge Distance Education Program

Business Wire, June 14, 2005

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Interactive eLearning Environment Will Provide Synchronous Content for Engineering Students

Elluminate, Inc., a leading provider of live eLearning and Web collaboration solutions for the real-time organization, announced today that California State University Northridge has selected Elluminate Live! Academic Edition(TM) after an extensive comparison of available solutions. Cal State Northridge will use the synchronous tool to add dynamic interaction to WebCT-based distance learning program for its Engineering Department, replacing an expensive and antiquated satellite-based teleconferencing system. As well, it will play a big role in supplementing an existing fully online curriculum which spans the disciplines across campus.

According to Randal Cummings, Cal State Northridge's director of online instruction, Elluminate Live! was selected because its functionality closely mirrored the activities of a face-to-face classroom, enabling instructors and students to transition to an online environment without significantly modifying their behavior. The high-quality voice over the Internet and multi-platform support were also important, as was the record/playback feature that enables students to review course material, dramatically increasing their retention rate. In addition, unlike competing solutions, there is no cost to access archived recordings, making Elluminate Live! cost-effective to operate.

"With Elluminate Live! pedagogy drives technology, not the other way around," said Cummings. "Our philosophy is to equip our instructors with a fishing pole rather than give them fish. Elluminate Live! lends itself to this model because there's no long learning curve required. After a little training, we can push our users out of the nest and let them fly on their own. Elluminate Live! is also community oriented. So we can create a community of users who have made the transition to Elluminate Live! to help facilitate its further use."

"We are excited to partner with Cal State Northridge to help enhance its distance education program," said Maurice Heiblum, Elluminate's VP of Sales & Marketing. "Elluminate Live! Academic Edition is designed by educators for educators. That means it enables instructors and students to interact in an online environment as they would in a face-to-face classroom, with all the same benefits."
