American Airlines and Junior Achievement Announce the Silicon Laboratories Relay All-American Team; Five Runners from Across the U.S. will Fly to Austin to Run the July 4th Race
Business Wire, June 15, 2005
AUSTIN, Texas -- Junior Achievement of Central Texas (JA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching young people about business, economics and free enterprise, and American Airlines today announced the All-American Team for the inaugural running of the Silicon Laboratories Relay. The five winners of the All-American Team include a US Army officer who calls Austin home but is currently stationed in Marietta, GA; an accountant from New York City who runs a 3:30 marathon; a JA volunteer and runner from St. Louis, MO; a JA staff member and longtime runner from Glenwood Springs, CO; and a electrical engineer from San Diego on the search for his nirvana through running.
The All-American Team was selected by a panel of judges based on the runners' 50-word submissions on why they should be a part of this elite team. American Airlines will fly the five lucky winners to Austin with two nights hotel accommodations provided by the Austin Hyatt Hotel on Town Lake to participate in the Silicon Laboratories Relay, a 26.2 mile relay benefiting JA.
"We were overwhelmed by the responses we received from runners and supporters of Junior Achievement from across the U.S.," said Dave Swincher, president of Junior Achievement of Central Texas. "We have assembled the ultimate team that supports our mission of educating today's youth on business and economics and recognizes the difference that JA makes in our schools."
"American Airlines is pleased to support the All-American Team by flying them to Austin to run the Silicon Laboratories Relay and support Junior Achievement," said Shae Butler, American Airlines Austin sales and development manager. "This inaugural race is sure to be a fun family event in one of the most beautiful and fit cities in the country."
Commencing at Austin High School and tracing around the famous and beautiful views of Lake Austin, runners will enjoy Austin's most beloved trek along Lake Austin Blvd. and Caesar Chavez. The relay course is divided into two 5Ks, two 10Ks and one 12K making it ideal for beginner, intermediate and advanced runners.
All proceeds from the Silicon Laboratories Relay will go directly into classrooms to enrich and sustain Junior Achievement programs that educate today's youth on business and economics. The Silicon Laboratories Relay is sponsored by Silicon Laboratories, a leading designer of mixed-signal integrated circuits (ICs), and RunTex and the Carrozza Foundation, the leaders in race event planning.
