The Planet Announces ''The Planet RealTime''
Business Wire, June 23, 2005
DALLAS -- The Planet(SM) today announced it will soon debut the first solutions from its new "The Planet RealTime(SM)" initiative. "The Planet RealTime" rapid solutions were implemented by The Planet's product development team in response to customer requests for automated services and management tools that can be delivered instantly. These first solutions include rapidly deployed servers, instant operating system reloads, and automated account transfers, and will be available to The Planet's customers beginning Aug. 1, 2005.
"Through our RealTime initiative, we continue to develop technologies and solutions that provide the convenience, control and efficiency that customers want," said Bryan Lynn, vice president, product development at The Planet. "We are excited to bring yet another industry first to our customers, providing them with the most cost-efficient and fastest provisioned solutions in the industry."
The first solutions offered by "The Planet RealTime" include the following:
"The Planet RealTime" Server Deployment
Delivering the fastest server deployment in the industry, "The Planet RealTime" servers are available within minutes of the customer's first call or online order to The Planet. "The Planet RealTime" delivery offer comes with a guarantee: if the server is not fully deployed within 30 minutes, the setup fee is waived.
"The Planet RealTime" Automated OS Reload
Users of The Planet's Orbit(SM) management system can initiate and process operating system reloads remotely without physical access to their managed servers. Available to all Orbit accounts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, this feature allows customers to respond instantly to emergency situations where it is necessary to wipe and completely reload a server without the assistance of technical support.
"The Planet RealTime" Account Transfer
A one-click solution will be available to transfer instantly the management of a specific server from one Orbit account to another. This will allow any Planet customer with an Orbit account to take over all management responsibility of an existing server, with no customer downtime.
All "The Planet RealTime" solutions are accessible through Orbit, The Planet's world-class customer portal and management system. Orbit leads the industry in simplifying account and server management and is designed to enable easy-to-use remote server management and maximum customer control.
Lynn, who recently joined The Planet, is leading the development effort of "The Planet RealTime" initiative.
Prior to joining The Planet, Lynn was director of IT architecture at XO Communications. Serving as the chief architect, he developed an architecture blueprint defining a standard process for product development and introduced new development concepts such as service oriented architecture (SOA) and methods leveraging XML and data transformation between disparate systems. While there, he played an integral part in the migration efforts of XO Communications and Allegiance Telecom, leveraging synergies between the two companies' disparate systems, including software development and data mapping.
