Kyocera Wireless and Cypress Solutions Join Together to Create Chameleon™ CTM 132 Data Modem; First M2M Hardware Device to Use the Power of Next Generation 1X Wireless Network With Mobile IP Upgrades in Canada

Business Wire, June 27, 2005

SAN DIEGO & VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Kyocera Wireless Corp., a leading global manufacturer of CDMA wireless handsets and devices, and Cypress Solutions, a Canadian provider of industrial wireless data products, today announced Cypress Solutions' new Chameleon(TM) CTM 132 using the award-winning Kyocera 200 Module. The Kyocera-enabled Chameleon CTM 132 combines leading CDMA technology with GPS and Internet capabilities for a rugged industrial cellular modem that allows data communication on virtually any CDMA network. Chameleon CTM 132 takes advantage of 1X wireless networks with mobile IP upgrades in Canada and has been approved for use with the third largest CDMA wireless carrier in Canada and the US.

Chameleon CTM 132 is the first industrial data modem designed to support Mobile IP, thereby maintaining the same IP address across different network areas and carrier networks. It enhances the ability of field service, transportation and oil and gas industries to effectively manage their mobile, remote and even non-mobile resources by providing faster data transmission speeds, uninterrupted service and on-demand communication and response. The range of features provided by Kyocera's 200 Module, including automatic data transmission, higher data speeds and a fixed home IP address, allows Cypress Solutions to offer enhanced communication abilities to improve business productivity and keep operations running smoothly. SCADA applications in the oil and gas market in particular will now have direct, real-time access to remote well sites without connection interruptions or the need to manage the connection in a dynamic IP environment.

Chameleon CTM 132's tough construction is built to withstand harsh commercial environments such as oil fields, industrial plants, construction sites and wear and tear conditions experienced in transportation and distribution applications. This latest addition to the Chameleon line of industrial data modems is available through carrier outlets and value added resellers (VARs) specializing in wireless data and mobile computing solutions.

"The Chameleon CTM 132 Modem maximizes the value of the nationwide 1xRTT wireless data network by integrating the award-winning Kyocera 200 Module and enabling utilization of advanced data handling and processing capabilities with integrated A-GPS mobile applications," said Rand Effron, Manager M2M Module Sales, Kyocera Wireless Corp. "By enabling a fixed mobile IP address, we can offer significantly more flexible communication configurations that provide new M2M applications and designs previously not possible without expensive work-arounds and additional signaling. Customers get improved productivity and communication abilities and wireless carriers love the product's ability to use the existing network in a more efficient way. As the M2M market continues to mature, solutions like the Chameleon CTM 132-Kyocera integration open the door for more creative revenue generating applications."

"We needed a telecommunications technology partner who could provide an advanced high-speed solution that was easy to integrate for both traditional and upgraded networks as well as excellent service and product support at a competitive price," said Keith Campden, VP of Wireless Products at Cypress Solutions. "With the Kyocera 200 Chameleon integration, our customers get a proven solution that enables fast and efficient communications directly with their remote applications -- whether they're in the vehicle, in the field, or in the plant -- as well as the advanced abilities enabled by 1X Mobile IP technology."
