SmartDB Unveils New Innovative Reporting Tool for Oracle Applications; New Ad-hoc Reporting Tool Complements Existing Data Integration Toolset

Business Wire, June 27, 2005

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- SmartDB Corp, the leading provider of professional data integration tools for systems integrators, today formerly unveiled SmartDB Reportal, a new browser-based query tool for end-users that retrieves and delivers actionable data right to their desktops. This addition to the SmartDB offering further supports the ability of business users to extract optimum value from their investments in enterprise applications by making available the data that is often locked-up inside complex databases. This new offering also underscores the expanding role of SmartDB tools in enterprise application deployments.

For more than a decade, data professionals have relied on SmartDB tools to simplify their data conversions and interface projects and improve the quality of their business data. Now SmartDB empowers end-users by letting them define their own queries and determine how and when the results of those queries are delivered to them. "RICE" is a term often used by systems integrators to describe the Reports, Interfaces, Conversions and Extensions part of new system implementations. While SmartDB has offered best of breed solutions for interfaces and conversions for many years, the addition of Reportal makes it three out of four areas that SmartDB addresses for system implementations.

"Reportal is good for digging in for specific details without wading thru the ocean. It takes the ocean and creates a pond that you can navigate through quickly," stated Susan Cassidy, CPA and Reportal User.

"For many years our customers have trusted SmartDB for loading data into their applications. With the SmartDB Reportal, we now make it possible for our customers to get access to that data in a way that has never before been possible. And that's what enterprise software is all about -- access to the right information, at the right time, in the right format," said Gavin Harvett, SmartDB's Vice President of Product Marketing.

Reportal differs from other query and reporting tools by introducing the concept of 'Capsules'. A Capsule organizes complex data structures into meaningful business modules that end-users can easily navigate and configure to deliver the information that they need when they need it. Capsules are pre-built for specific business functions such as Buyers, Material Managers and Payroll Administrators, and can easily be extended to allow for custom requirements. End-users access Reportal through an intuitive, browser-based interface, which also means that IT does not have to load new software onto each end-user's client-side machine. The learning curve for Reportal is very short, particularly for users who are familiar with their own data. It is not uncommon for Reportal users to produce their own queries and reports after less than 15 minutes of training.

The initial library of Capsules that SmartDB has to offer supports the Oracle E-Business Suite. The data structures that underlie Oracle E-Business Suite, and most other enterprise applications, are not oriented toward business users. Reportal Capsules for Oracle E-Business Suite create an abstract layer of configurable business views that span all the relevant application modules offered by Oracle. These Capsules were developed by Top Team Inc., an established Oracle Application company of experts and a preferred technology partner of SmartDB.

"Partnering with Top Team on this front made sense because of their long-standing track-record in successfully implementing Oracle Applications and providing post-implementation reporting solutions to Oracle customers," said George Langan, President and CEO of SmartDB Corp.

The SmartDB Reportal is available immediately.
