Deloitte Makes Impact on Homeless in San Francisco; Event Attracts Leader of Federal Homeless Program
Business Wire, June 4, 2005
SAN FRANCISCO -- Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, one of the nation's leading professional services firms, celebrated its Impact Day in San Francisco, its national day of volunteer service, by sending 1,200 employees as volunteers to San Francisco's Project Homeless Connect event. Nearly 2,000 volunteers participated in the event, which also attracted Philip Mangano, the Executive Director of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, California State Senator Jackie Speier and Barry Salzberg, U.S. Managing Partner for Deloitte & Touche USA LLP.
"We have a culture of service at Deloitte and that includes service to the community," said Salzberg.
Deloitte personnel worked side-by-side with City of San Francisco employees and volunteers to assist the homeless in receiving food, cleaning feet, getting medical attention, preparing for financial assistance, and a general extension of a friendly hand and human interaction.
"Deloitte believes in order to be a great firm, we have to be in our communities ... we have to be there making a difference," said Jack Russi, Vice Chairman and Regional Managing Partner of Deloitte & Touche USA LLP. "The neat thing about this was that we were so close to the impact from the day, that we saw how it can change someone's life -- both for our homeless clients and for each of us."
On IMPACT Day, all of Deloitte's nearly 30,000 people are encouraged to set aside their work for the day to volunteer in the community. This year on IMPACT Day, Deloitte personnel volunteered with more than 300 non-profit organizations across the country.
