Business Wire, June 6, 2005
AUSTIN, Texas -- Winternals Software(R), a leading provider of Microsoft systems recovery and data protection solutions, announced that Mark Russinovich, Ph.D., Winternals' co-founder and Chief Software Architect, is presenting "Understanding and Fighting Malware: Viruses, Spyware, and Rootkits" at Microsoft(R) Tech-Ed 2005 in Orlando, Fla., on June 7 at 5:00 p.m. EST. Tech-Ed is Microsoft's largest annual conference for IT professionals and developers.
Russinovich will discuss the evolution of malicious software attacks and detail how malware propagates and embeds into Windows operating systems. The presentation includes several demonstrations of specific examples for detecting and removing malware. The session is one of only 12 out of the more than 400 Tech-Ed presentations that Microsoft has selected for simulcast via the web through http://msevents.microsoft.com.
"Malware authors are becoming more sophisticated at developing methods to defeat security precautions and penetrate Windows networks," Russinovich said. "That's why IT professionals should have the knowledge and tools for reactively detecting and removing malware infection."
In addition to his leadership position at Winternals Software, Russinovich is co-founder of the Sysinternals.com web site for advanced Windows system utilities. He is also a Microsoft MVP, contributing writer to industry trade publications, frequent speaker at IT conferences and seminars around the world, and co-author of the book Microsoft Windows Internals, Fourth Edition.
Winternals Software will also be exhibiting its full line of products -- including Recovery Manager(R), Defrag Manager(TM), and Administrator's Pak(TM) -- in booth 865 at Microsoft Tech-Ed 2005. Collectively, Winternals' solutions decrease recovery time and boost performance of all networked systems simultaneously, effectively reducing the total cost of ownership for the Windows-based enterprise.
