Packeteer Introduces New Software Licenses to Scale WAN Application Traffic Management Platforms; New 45, 100 and 200 Mbps WAN Capacity License Options Provide Lower Entry Points and Greater Expandability in PacketShaper 10000

Business Wire, June 6, 2005

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- Packeteer(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:PKTR), the pioneer and global leader in WAN Application Traffic Management, today announced new software for its high-end appliance series, the PacketShaper 10000. The PacketShaper 10000 provides the greatest range of capacity available on the market today. With new software license options, enterprises can scale to 1Gps of throughput within a single platform with a lower entry point at 45 Mbps by purchasing license upgrades as their needs grow. This is ideal for any organization that is deploying business critical applications over the WAN and migrating to Web-based applications that may demand more bandwidth in the future.

"We have had significant success with the 10000 since its November 2004 introduction," said Bob Hughes, president of Four Corners Technology, LLC. "With the new license options, we will now be able to offer our enterprise customers even more options by enabling them to purchase the top-end box at the lower WAN capacity to manage their bandwidth today and have the flexibility to upgrade all the way to 1 Gigabit in a single platform as their WAN link grows in the future."

The PacketShaper 10000 scales to 1 Gbps while maintaining full Layer 7 intelligence and network visibility with rate shaping, centralized management and full reporting. Accurate and reliable classification is the crucial measure of performance, and the 10000 delivers much more than just a fast link speed. The 10000 can forward traffic at gigabit rates, concurrently manage QoS for thousands of classes of traffic, collect over one hundred performance metrics for each class, and compress traffic to hundreds of sites. Combining granularity, flexibility and performance, the 10000 is the most powerful traffic management solution on the market. The bandwidth and rich features have broad appeal for enterprise and education customers supporting bandwidth-intensive applications, as well as ISPs that need to carefully manage traffic to meet SLA requirements for their customers.

"The 10000 continues to be very successful, shipping more than 300 units since introduction. Now our customers see WAN optimization as strategic to their network so they are seeking longer term investment protection," said David Puglia, vice president of marketing of Packeteer. "They also realize that there will be continued demand on their bandwidth as more distributed enterprise applications are being deployed over their global networks. The new offerings scale easily as they add more bandwidth so that one appliance will meet their needs today and tomorrow."

In addition to existing licenses supporting 310 Mbps, 610 Mbps and 1Gps, the new 10000 software licenses include 45 Mbps, 100 Mbps, and 200 Mbps, with Xpress and corresponding upgrades. For the ISP version, the new licenses include 45 Mbps, 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps and corresponding upgrades. The new models are available now.
