NDS Synamedia Solution Selected by Viasat Broadcasting for Secure Broadband TV in Sweden

Business Wire, June 7, 2005

LONDON -- NDS Group plc (Nasdaq:NNDS)(EURONEXT:NNDS):

--NDS Synamedia secures Viasat's new broadband TV service

--Viasat benefits from integrated broadband, encryption and interactive application solution

--Viasat's technology choice allows extra functionality in the future

NDS Group plc the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, today announced that Modern Times Group's Viasat Broadcasting, a leading digital satellite pay-TV broadcaster in the Nordic region has selected Synamedia(TM), the NDS secure broadband TV architecture. NDS has an existing relationship with Viasat, following the successful completion of the switch of Viasat's subscriber base to NDS VideoGuard(R) conditional access encryption technology in 2004.

Using the Synamedia(TM) solution integrated with VideoGuard(R) content protection, Viasat has been able to make its pay-TV channels securely available to over 300,000 households in 50 Swedish cities that are connected to the Bredbandsbolaget fibre network. Synamedia with VideoGuard protects content at all stages of delivery--from the broadband access point through the last mile to the IP STB in the home. The system also integrates with Viasat's IPTV guide, which enhances the viewer experience.

Hans-Holger Albrecht, President and Chief Executive Officer of Modern Times Group commented: "The launch last year of Sweden's first plug-and-play solution enabling viewers to plug new set top boxes directly into the broadband connection socket was only made possible by having a fully integrated and secure technology platform. We expect this service to grow rapidly and to launch new features such as VOD in the future."

Nigel Smith, Vice President Broadband Internet said: "NDS Synamedia allows entertainment operators to earn new video-based revenues by exploiting broadband IP networks. Synamedia delivers a flexible, multi-service content protection system that enables the best interactive entertainment packages including IPTV, VOD, PVR, pay-per-view and network PVR applications. The broadband implementation builds on and enhances the existing relationship NDS has with Viasat."
