Spirent Communications Announces Condensed IP Telephony Test System for More Economical Voice and Video Telephony Service Rollout
Business Wire, June 7, 2005
ROCKVILLE, Md. -- Spirent's Distributed Abacus 53 IP Telephony and Video Rollout System Enables Carriers to Assess Network's Readiness to Support Voice, Video and Data at Multiple Points on the Network
Spirent Communications (NYSE:SPM) (LSE:SPT) today announced the availability of the Spirent Distributed Abacus 53 IP Telephony and Video Rollout System designed to assess and validate infrastructure performance, voice, and video media quality in pre-production, triple play networks.
Service providers competing to make triple-play service bundles available to customers face new challenges. They need to assure performance for both individual network elements and end-to-end voice and video services across complex and distributed packet and circuit infrastructures.
Spirent has condensed its award-winning Abacus 5000 IP Telephony Test Migration System into a smaller, more economical form factor ideally suited for distributed deployment at key locations on the network. It enables service providers and enterprises to reduce time to market of IP-based voice, video and data services, while meeting the quality requirements as perceived by users.
The economics of the Distributed Abacus 53 allow it to be perpetually reused in the network or the lab, thereby making service provider and enterprise VoIP rollouts affordable. In transferring Abacus 5000 technology into a smaller form factor, Spirent can test a wide range of protocols and interfaces presented by emerging triple-play services.
"Shrinking the Abacus 5000 into a smaller, less expensive package enables many of our service provider and enterprise customers to conduct network testing they couldn't do before," said Bahaa Moukadam, vice president, IP Telephony for Spirent Communications. "By testing on the network, it helps uncover issues that can go undetected even with the most rigorous lab testing."
Spirent's Distributed Abacus 53 IP Telephony and Video Rollout System solves converged network testing challenges by emulating real-time voice and video traffic to analyze media and signaling performance from multiple points on the network. It treats multiple Abacus 53 systems as a single, virtual system for testing services over IP and legacy network infrastructure. It also tests echo and one way delay, two key problem areas for service provider and enterprise networks.
In addition, Spirent offers an IP Telephony Network Assessment Service, delivering Spirent assistance with network analysis freeing customer resources to concentrate on the network deployment. The IP Telephony Network Assessment Service incorporates on-site Spirent Global Services expertise, an initial assessment of the customer's requirements, customized network analysis, corrective recommendations and, if necessary, a follow-on service with in-depth testing of specific problems.
This solution is featured in one of 20 new Spirent triple play test scenarios that cover the breadth of testing required to deliver required Quality of Service (QoS) to the customer. Testing each network element end-to-end, and managing the quality of services in the deployed network are all critical in today's battle for reliable delivery of bundled triple play services.
The Distributed Abacus 53 IP Telephony and Video Rollout System is available now.
