Berkana Wireless Receives Frost & Sullivan's 2005 Entrepreneurial Company Award

Business Wire, June 9, 2005

CAMPBELL, Calif. -- Berkana Wireless Inc., a provider of highly integrated CMOS radio frequency (RF) solutions for cellular and other multimode wireless connectivity, has been selected as the "Entrepreneurial Company in the Handset RF Semiconductor Market" according to the recently published report, "Strategic Analysis of World Handset RF Semiconductor Markets" by Frost & Sullivan, Palo Alto, Calif. Berkana Wireless received this award for its unique and innovative family of single-chip, quad-band GSM/GPRS CMOS transceivers. Berkana's RF design on CMOS technology addresses the integration demands from the handset RF industry and is expected to be a good alternative to SiGe and BiCMOS discrete ICs.

This Entrepreneurial Award, the result of more than 400 hours of market research by Frost & Sullivan analysts, is given every year to a small company that has demonstrated superior entrepreneurial ability in its industry. It signifies the company's identification of a unique and revolutionary product solution with significant market potential. The award also certifies that Berkana's marketing strategy is sound and that the company is poised for success.

"RF semiconductor companies will have to design highly integrated devices that improve the power characteristics and overall performance of the RF section in handsets, while helping to shrink the design cycle," said Deepa Doraiswamy, a Frost & Sullivan industry analyst. "Berkana received this award for its unique and innovative family of single-chip, quad-band GSM/GPRS CMOS transceivers which are expected to trigger a new wave of revolution in wireless integration."

Berkana's BKW9000 family of single-chip, quad-band GSM/GPRS CMOS transceivers offer an excellent combination of high performance and low power consumption that enables handset manufacturers to produce cellular handsets and mobile terminals offering better call quality, fewer dropped calls and longer battery life. The BKW9000 transceivers also occupy 50 percent less PCB space than competing RF integrated circuits, enabling OEMs/ODMs to design smaller form-factor handsets, and help reduce Bill of Materials cost by requiring only five additional components to implement a quad-band GSM/GPRS Class 12 transceiver circuit. The BKW9000 Transceivers are currently being designed-in by leading handset OEMs/ODMs and are ramping to full production.

Berkana Vice President of Marketing and Product Management Robert Fan said, "We are honored to receive this prestigious Entrepreneurial Award from Frost & Sullivan. Berkana's combination of a proven technology, talented team, and partnerships with the world's leading handset OEMs and baseband IC suppliers positions us to become a key player in the GSM/GPRS and 3G multimode transceiver markets."
