About the Intel Science Talent Search

The Intel Science Talent Search (STS) is America's oldest and most prestigious pre-college science competition - often considered the "junior Nobel Prize." The competition focuses on promoting a deeper understanding of science through the research and discovery process.

This year, 1,600 high school seniors submitted entries that were judged based on their individual research ability, scientific originality and creative thinking. The research projects cover all disciplines of science, including chemistry, physics, mathematics, engineering, social science and biology. The top 300 entrants are selected as semifinalists, and then trimmed to 40 finalists. The 40 students travel to Washington, D.C. to compete for more than $1.25 million in scholarships and awards as well as present their research to prominent scientists, teachers and media.
