Internet Telephony's Rich Tehrani Applauds Appointment of Kevin Martin as FCC Chairman; VoIP Industry Leader Offers Strong Endorsement of Bush Administration Appointee
Business Wire, March 16, 2005
NORWALK, Conn. -- Rich Tehrani, Technology Marketing Corporation (TMC(R)) president and INTERNET TELEPHONY CONFERENCE & EXPO conference chairman, today announced his full endorsement of Kevin Martin's appointment as new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman.
"It is my belief that Kevin Martin is the absolute best person to serve as FCC Chairman, and as such, we in the telecom industry expect him to achieve great things for the country and consumers everywhere," said Tehrani. "I applaud his philosophy of light-touch regulation in broadband and believe he will be remembered as someone who has accomplished great things for broadband growth while protecting consumer interest.
"From his past work, it is clear that Chairman Martin is not afraid to be controversial if he believes he is right; he is the ideal leader for this industry at a time when we are at a crossroads in communications technology, media ownership, digital television, as well as a host of other issues such as WiMAX proliferation and competition.
"What will define Commissioner Martin's tenure as Chairman is how carefully he balances the needs of incumbent and competitive service providers, while taking into account what is best for today's consumer and tomorrow's competitive landscape. The Voice-over-IP (VoIP) industry hopes that Mr. Martin will continue the VoIP stance the commission has espoused for the past few years."
Tehrani added, "In keeping with this philosophy we hope to see VoIP regulation where necessary such as e-911 and CALEA. We wish Commissioner Martin well in his new, well-deserved position and we look forward to him leading us into a world with more broadband competition and enhanced consumer choice."
Rich Tehrani has been ingrained in telecommunications and the proliferation of VoIP since its inception; he is widely regarded as one of the industry's foremost experts and pioneers. The INTERNET TELEPHONY(R) Conference & EXPO, of which he is Chairman, is the world's largest VoIP marketplace; the conference and exposition routinely feature the most comprehensive education available for both the individual and enterprise interested in selecting and deploying VoIP solutions.
