Baseline Editors Earn 51st Grand Neal Award; In-depth piece on medical industry takes top prize at industry's top ceremony

Business Wire, March 16, 2005

NEW YORK -- The editorial team at Baseline magazine, a Ziff Davis Media publication, earned Grand Neal honors at the 51st Annual Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards, held today at The Waldorf-Astoria. The single article "We Did Nothing Wrong" offered a cautionary true story detailing how inferior radiation dosage software led to the deaths of at least five patients. Accepting the award, presented by renowned journalist Marshall Loeb in front of a record audience of media peers, were the magazine's editors: Tom Steinert-Threlkeld, John McCormick, Deborah Gage, Todd Spangler, Berta Ramona Thayer, Victor Williams, Nicole White, and Anna Maria Virzi. Baseline earned Grand Neal honors from among 1168 entries. In addition to the best single article, the publication took top honors for best regularly featured department.

CXO Media's CSO, from IDG, also scored big in the ceremony with wins in three categories: best subject-related series, best single article, and regularly featured department.

Below is a list of winning publications, the names of the editors, and parent companies where applicable.

About the Neal Awards

The Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Awards were created by
American Business Media in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial
excellence in independent business publications. The awards are named
after American Business Media's (formerly American Business
Publications) first managing director, who remained active in
promoting the business press throughout his life. The steady growth in
the number of entries, from the initial 22 to 1,168 this year, is a
testament to the growth of American Business Media and the prestige of
the awards. The awards now reflect the changing face of b-to-b media
by including an award for online journalism.
