Enterasys Secure Networks Is the Choice of Russia's Busiest Airport
Business Wire, March 18, 2005
ANDOVER, Mass. -- Domodedovo International Airport relies on Secure Networks capabilities for video security and X-ray systems, ticketing and other key business operations
Enterasys Networks(R) (NYSE: ETS), the Secure Networks Company(TM), today announced that Domodedovo International Airport, Russia's busiest airport, has deployed Secure Networks(TM) solutions to ensure business continuity and protect vital data from internal and external threats.
Domodedovo uses an Enterasys Secure Networks infrastructure capable of delivering the highest levels of reliability and performance for a number of vital systems for security and operations, including: new digital video and X-ray security systems, central and remote ticketing offices, as well as electronic ticketing, passenger check-ins, arrival and departure information displays, aircraft departure control systems, and baggage handling, among others.
"We're committed to making Domodedovo the most state-of-the-art airport in Russia," said Arthur Lesikov, network manager for EAST LINE Group, the specialized civil aviation organization that operates transportation and airport management at Domodedovo. "Enterasys Secure Networks solutions play an integral role in helping us rapidly expand service at Domodedovo by securing the airport's network infrastructure."
Enterasys solutions protect hundreds of network servers at the airport, where more than 4,000 users a day access information from the central network operations center and 20 remote locations. "Domodedovo's outstanding growth and vision in the aviation industry is achieved, in large part, because of EAST LINE's ongoing investment in the most sophisticated technology, such as Secure Networks," Lesikov said.
Using Enterasys' solutions, the airport now has a highly available redundant network infrastructure that ensures transparent end-to-end communication at all times. "Every minute of network downtime can introduce a large financial impact as it affects services we provide to our airline partners and the traveling public," said Lesikov. "We simply cannot take risks with our security, arrival and departure logistics, and baggage tracking."
Domodedovo ranks first among Russian airports for domestic and international air cargo transport. It handles more than 50 percent of the country's annual total cargo shipments. In 2004, Domodedovo carried 4.5 million domestic passengers and more than 5 million international travelers, quickly gaining on Moscow-based airports for international travel business. Overall, it carries one-third of Russia's total passenger volume and is the largest air travel service to the Commonwealth of Independent States, which comprises the former Soviet Union.
"It's a testament to the unique capabilities of Enterasys Secure Networks that Domodedovo has placed its trust in our ability to protect the network of the nation's busiest airport," said Michael Rivers, executive vice president of worldwide sales and services for Enterasys. "Domodedovo is just the latest major airport worldwide to deploy Secure Networks solutions. The same capabilities that help large airports ensure business continuity and compliance also enable all types of businesses to operate more efficiently and securely."
