JBoss, Inc. Expands Support Services for Apache Web Software
Business Wire, March 21, 2005
ATLANTA -- Extends Enterprise-Quality Professional Support Services and Development Resources to Complete Line of Industry Leading Apache Web Software
JBoss(R), Inc., the Professional Open Source company, today announced expanded professional support services for the complete line of popular Apache web software. With a newly introduced option for Apache Web Server support and extended support services for Apache Jakarta Tomcat 5.5 and the Tomcat Web Server Connector (mod_jk), JBoss now offers enterprise customers a complete support package for Apache web software--all from one trusted source. This new offering is in response to emerging customer needs for support of a complete middleware system.
With more and more companies making the JBoss Application Server a centerpiece of their IT environment, the seamless integration between the web server and application server is increasingly critical for production environments. To that end, JBoss introduced an option for customers of the JBoss Application Server or Apache Jakarta Tomcat to add full professional support services for the Apache Web Server, the most widely deployed web server in Fortune 500 enterprises. To support this initiative, JBoss has formed a partnership with Covalent Technologies, a steward and long-standing member of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF).
In addition, JBoss expanded support services for Tomcat, the leading JSP/servlet engine, and mod_jk, the popular connector that integrates Tomcat with Apache Web Server, to include the latest product releases as well as new public training courses. Both Tomcat 5.5 and mod_jk 1.2.8 releases were made possible through significant development efforts by JBoss architect and major Tomcat contributor Remy Maucherat and JBoss developer and mod_jk contributor Mladen Turk. By driving development innovation for both Tomcat and Tomcat Web Server Connector, JBoss is uniquely able to offer enterprise-quality professional support services for Tomcat and its integration, not just with Apache, but also with Microsoft IIS and Domino web servers.
"JBoss is a key contributor and technology driver in these latest versions of Tomcat and mod_jk, and we stand behind them with the same level of accountability and professional support services that enterprises expect from any software company. Now, enterprise users have a support option for the entire open source Apache web software line, including Apache Web Server, from one source," said Brad Murdoch, vice president of services, JBoss, Inc. "JBoss Professional Open Source means enterprises can implement leading open source technologies like Tomcat, Apache Web Server and JBoss Application Server, and be assured of high-quality, responsive professional support from technical experts who have direct access to the core developers themselves."
JBoss offers training, consulting and professional support services for customers who use Tomcat as a standalone JSP/servlet engine. Existing JBoss Application Server customers will receive support for Tomcat/Apache Web Server integration at no additional charge. Apache Web Server support is available as an optional upgrade.
Support & Training
Unlike many of today's third-party packagers of open source software support, JBoss support is delivered from the source--that is, the product experts and core developers behind JBoss open source products. JBoss Professional Support for Apache web software includes direct input from major contributors to Apache Web Server, Apache Jakarta Tomcat and mod_jk who know the code base best. JBoss services include the training, consulting and professional support needed at every step of the application lifecycle, whether it be designing enterprise applications, testing proof of concept, deploying mission-critical applications or rolling out JBoss open source products across an entire enterprise.
JBoss offers a number of different public training courses, including a new two-day Tomcat course, that take place in a rotation of major business cities in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region. Private hands-on training courses are available to development teams at their own site. There is flexibility in the course curricula, allowing for customization of training courses to meet participants' specific needs, both in terms of subject matter and knowledge-level of staff.
