A CMM Level 3 rating is the Software Engineering Institute's standard for benchmarking the commercial and defense industry's best practices for systems engineering. Because high-quality software that is produced on schedule and within budget is a critical component of U.S. defense systems, the SEI CMM assesses the maturity of an organization's software processes--it provides a method for the United States Department of Defense to more effectively evaluate the abilities of vendors and contractors to competently perform on software engineering contracts. The Department of Defense views CMM as a necessity and now requires all their software developments to be performed by contractors that are rated CMM Level 3.
"We want our Department of Defense customers to know that we are committed to developing quality software products and that we are capable of doing so now, and for many years to come. I'm pleased with not only this accomplishment, but with the overall process maturity path this establishes for our entire organization. Our customers have our assurance that we view this event not as an end, but a beginning as we remain dedicated to continuous process improvement," said Jim Summers, SafeNet Mykotronx's President.
