Alba Therapeutics Announces the Creation of Its Corporate Advisory Board and the Appointment of VP Intellectual Property and General Counsel

BALTIMORE -- Alba Therapeutics Corporation today announced the first appointments to its Corporate Advisory Board and also announced the appointment of Chris Jeffers, Ph.D., J.D. as General Counsel and Vice President Intellectual Property. Alba's first appointees to its Corporate Advisory Board are Tim Mayleben, MBA and Roger Newton, PhD. Dr. Newton was Founder and CEO of Esperion Therapeutics, a company founded in July 1998 and located in Ann Arbor, MI. Esperion was acquired by Pfizer in February 2004 for $1.3 billion. A co-inventor of Lipitor(R), he was previously a Distinguished Scientist at Parke Davis Pharmaceutical Research. Mr. Mayleben was most recently the Chief Operating Officer of Esperion, which is now a division of Pfizer Global Research & Development. Mr. Mayleben joined Esperion in late 1998 as Chief Financial Officer and was responsible for raising more than $200 million in venture capital and institutional equity funding. "The active involvement of Mssrs. Mayleben and Newton will be fundamental to our plan to develop and commercialize disease modifying therapeutics for the treatment of auto-immune and metabolic diseases," stated Dr. Blake Paterson, Co-founder and CEO.

Dr. Jeffers joins Alba from Connolly, Bove, Lodge and Hutz, L.L.P., Washington, D.C., where he has been involved in the representation of such clients as Pfizer (Lipitor(R)) and Bayer (Kogenate(R)) in crucial patent litigation cases. Dr. Jeffers earned his Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University, obtained his PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of Houston, and completed NIH Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Johns Hopkins University.
