Quest Software Supports Microsoft ADAM in New Version of Recovery Manager for Active Directory; Online, Granular Recovery Now Available for Active Directory Application Mode

Business Wire, March 3, 2005

IRVINE, Calif. -- Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq:QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and Windows management solutions, today announced general availability of a new version of Quest Recovery Manager for Active Directory, which has been enhanced to include support for Microsoft's Active Directory Application Mode (ADAM). Recovery Manager for Active Directory is an easy-to-use solution for fast, online, granular recovery of Active Directory in the event of inadvertent modification due to software failure or human error.

"Recovery of Active Directory using native tools is a very manual, time-consuming process. We worked with a client who had lost hundreds of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) earlier this year, and it took two of us almost three weeks to get it all sorted out," said Jim Boyer, senior IT architect at systems integrator SRS Technology. "Now, with Recovery Manager in place, a similar scenario would require no more than two hours to remedy. We recommend Recovery Manager because it is so essential to be able to restore organizational units (OUs) and GPOs in an easy and efficient manner."

Version 7.1 extends Recovery Manager's online, granular restore capabilities to ADAM to give application administrators a full range of recovery options, from recovering the full ADAM database to restoring single objects or even recovering a single attribute value - without restarting ADAM services. New features in this release include:

--Online, granular restore of Microsoft's ADAM

--ADAM comparison reports - down to individual attribute values - to identify what has changed in ADAM, and to assist in quick, targeted recovery

--Group Policy comparison reports - down to individual policy settings - to identify and correct the source of Group Policy problems

--Automatic generation of comparison reports

"With Active Directory becoming the standard platform for identity and access management, we see an increasing need for customers to be able to quickly and efficiently recover it as needed," said Michael Stephenson, director of Product Management for Windows Server at Microsoft. "We are happy to see Quest extend the capabilities of Recovery Manager for Active Directory to support ADAM."
