Struggling Digital Impact Taken Out At Big Premium
Another `Net name gets taken out by offline company as consolidation continues.
In the latest sign of the growing lust by offline companies to get a greater piece of the `Net pie, long struggling email marketing outfit Digital Impact (NASDAQ:DIGI) agreed to be acquired today by large offline data broker Acxiom Corp. (NASDAQ:ACXM). The deal comes at a big premium to DIGI`s Thursday closing price.
Earlier this month, DIGI had rejected a $2 per share buyout offer from InfoUSA (NASDAQ:IUSA), another large data provider, and DIGI had put in place a ``poison pill`` plan designed to block a hostile takeover. DIGI shares had been languishing at the $1.50 level before IUSA made its unsolicited buyout offer in February, which pushed the stock up to near $2.00.
