Power Grid Prepares for Summer Heat; California ISO Summer Assessment: Power Supply Forecast Adequate, Margins Thin; ``Hot Day Grid Simulation'' Announced

Business Wire, March 30, 2005

FOLSOM, Calif. -- The California ISO Summer Assessment for 2005 predicts there should be adequate energy supplies to meet a growing demand for power, but reserve margins may narrow substantially if there is an unusual heat wave or other adverse conditions. Consumers are encouraged to conserve electricity during peak periods this summer.

The Summer Assessment is prepared in coordination with the California Energy Commission (CEC) and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). It is on the ISO website at: http://www.caiso.com/docs/09003a6080/35/46/09003a60803546fd.pdf.> The ISO Board of Governors and its Chair Ken Wiseman will join the new ISO President and CEO Yakout Mansour and Acting COO Jim Detmers at a news conference to unveil the Summer Assessment. The ISO will also announce preparations underway, in coordination with state energy agencies and utilities in California, to ready for summer grid operations. The California ISO will provide an overview of plans to conduct a "Hot Day Grid Simulation" later this spring. Attending the news conference will be officials from the CEC, CPUC and utilities.
