Digital Lightwave Announces Improved NIC Product Functionality; Small Form Factor NIC Supports 1.5Mbps Thru 10.7GBPS Testing

Business Wire, March 31, 2005

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Digital Lightwave(R) (Nasdaq:DIGL) today announced full-range T-Carrier, PDH, SONET, SDH, and OTN testing in their small form factor Network Information Computer(R) (NIC(R)) chassis. With the newly updated Optical Multi-Rate (OMR) module, NIC users can now test from 1.5Mbps to 10.7Gbps in the 3-slot, lightweight NIC 2.5G(R) chassis. Previously, this functionality was only available in the 5-slot NIC Plus(R) offering. The new offering lowers the weight of the outfitted NIC product by more than 45% resulting in a highly functional, truly portable format. The smaller unit also provides a lower cost of ownership, when desiring 10 Gig SONET/SDH testing functionality, by allowing the purchase of a 3-slot NIC versus a 5-slot NIC product.

"Our engineering staff continually executes on our founding vision of providing lightweight, portable, and easy-to-use network test products and technologies," said Doug Gardner, Chief Technology Officer, Digital Lightwave. "Having a flexible, open architecture to work with allows the NIC to serve a broad and diverse technology base in today's ever growing networking environment."

Equipment manufacturers, service providers and enterprise customers require equipment flexible enough to support rates of 1.5Mbps thru 10.7Gbps in their development process, new services turn-up and ongoing maintenance. Increasing the testing capabilities in the 3-slot NIC benefits Digital's customers functionally and financially. The 3-slot NIC is designed to fit under an airline seat, for maximum travel ease, and is provided with a cloth case and shoulder strap for convenience. With the increased capability offered thru fewer modules, a NIC user may obtain an even higher feature set by selecting the 5-slot NIC Plus chassis.

Digital Lightwave's portable NICs are software-based, modular products that combine a multitude of test functions in a single integrated solution, including OTN, SONET/SDH, T-carrier/PDH, ATM, Ethernet, and Jitter analysis.
