Vignette Powers WesCorp's Employee Intranet; WesCorp Selects Vignette Over Plumtree, BEA and Microsoft

Business Wire, March 8, 2005

AUSTIN, Texas -- Vignette Corp. (Nasdaq:VIGN) today announced that the Western Corporate Federal Credit Union (WesCorp) has selected Vignette(R) V7 content management and Vignette Application Portal to power its employee intranet. After reviewing multiple portal vendors, including Plumtree, BEA and Microsoft, WesCorp chose Vignette for its ease of use, commitment to industry standards and ease of deployment.

"As a financial services institution, security, flexibility and ease of development are absolutely imperative," said Chris Barber, senior vice president and chief information office of WesCorp. "We selected Vignette for two primary reasons: first, the intelligence and scalability of its solution, and second, its proven experience in the portal space. Vignette's solution allows us to manage our complex infrastructure cost-effectively, while ensuring robust and consistent online service to our employees and members."

WesCorp places a strong emphasis on employee satisfaction, which drove the company's decision to strengthen its internal online presence and provide employees with instant access to an expanded selection of resources and information. WesCorp required a solution that would provide support for its growing Web content management, business work spaces, collaboration and knowledge management initiatives. For needs ranging from having a central location for communicating human resources information to notifying employees of upcoming events and industry news, WesCorp tapped Vignette to provide employees with access to the right information at the right time.

Vignette's commitment to industry standards and Java-based applications also played an important role in WesCorp's decision-making process. With Vignette's standards-based technology, WesCorp is able to leverage the company's deep Microsoft .NET skill set while still benefiting from the flexibility of Java-based applications, saving time and money and freeing up its employees to focus on driving business value as opposed to learning new programming languages.

"Our employee intranet is where everything comes together," said John May, director of systems integration at WesCorp. "From sharing corporate and industry news, to benefits and human resources information, to strategic projects, employees now have a central place where they can find the information they need."

WesCorp is taking full advantage of the integrated benefits of Vignette's content management and portal capabilities, specifically the Web content editing capabilities the technologies jointly provide. Vignette's ease of use enables individual business groups such as human resources, marketing and investment services to update content, while a common look and feel is maintained across the organization. Currently, WesCorp has built more than 36 portlets, and expects to have an additional 50 portlets up and running by the end of the year.

"Successful organizations like WesCorp recognize the power of placing relevant and timely information in front of their employees, which in turn enables them to focus on better serving the customer," said Chuck Neal, senior vice president of worldwide sales and distribution at Vignette. "WesCorp is an excellent example of how both business users and IT staff can benefit from Vignette's industry-leading technology. Vignette's ability to push content ownership to the business and its strict adherence to industry standards frees IT staff to focus on more pressing needs. And business users such as those in HR now can update Web site information without having to go through IT, eliminating a bottleneck and enabling employees to have access to the most current and relevant information. The end result is an organization that is paying attention to customer needs and driving business value."

Moving forward, WesCorp plans to further leverage Vignette V7's capabilities to develop a customer-facing extranet, providing its more than 1,100 credit union members with timely and personalized access to relevant business applications, services and information when they need it, regardless of device, language or location.
