IONA Joins Oasis Web Services Reliable Exchange Technical Committee

Business Wire, May 12, 2005

DUBLIN, Ireland & WALTHAM, Mass. -- Company Co-sponsors TC to Support Progress of WS-ReliableMessaging Specification

IONA(R) Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high-performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, today announced that the company has co-sponsored the formation of the OASIS Web Services Reliable Exchange (WS-RX) Technical Committee (TC). The primary goal for the new OASIS TC is to drive progress of the WS-ReliableMessaging (WS-RM) specification toward standardization. IONA joins a variety of leading companies in the Web services space in its support of the standardization of WS-RM.

"The ability to reliably exchange messages between different services and applications, independent of vendor, platform or protocol, is a key requirement for the mainstream adoption of Web services for enterprise computing initiatives, including SOA," explained Eric Newcomer, CTO, IONA. "A significant class of mission-critical Web services applications such as EDI replacement or electronic funds transfer depend on reliable messaging for their success. We hear this from our customers and prospects on a consistent basis. With WS-RM submitted to OASIS, and a new technical committee formed to progress the specification, the industry has taken a significant step toward standardization of this important technology."

WS-RM is intended to provide a standard method for ensuring that a message delivered between disparate systems and applications reaches the intended destination reliably. This capability is crucial as more companies look to the flexibility and agility of loosely coupled, distributed computing environments to support new business initiatives. IONA supports a subset of the WS-RM specification in the company's technology for mobile device platforms and intends to support the full specification in upcoming versions of Artix(TM), the company's extensible Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).

"IONA's participation in the OASIS WS-RX Technical Committee will help advance development of the WS-ReliableMessaging and WS-RM Policy specifications," noted James Bryce Clark, director of standards development at OASIS. "By joining with other suppliers and users within OASIS, IONA demonstrates its commitment to the open standards process."
