HomelandSecurityStocks.com: General Accounting Office and New York Times Report on Danger of Terrorist Attacks on Chemical Plants - GVI Security has Solutions to Vulnerabilities
Business Wire, May 12, 2005
NEW YORK -- HomelandSecurityStocks.com (HSS) -- In testimony before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, John B. Stephenson, Director, Natural Resources and Environment of the GAO said that attacks on chemical facilities presented a severe risk and that a huge amount of work remained to secure these facilities against terrorist attack. This vulnerability was highlighted by a New York Times article on May 9, 2005 that described a chemical plant that processes chlorine gas so close to New York City that it "poses a potentially lethal threat to 12 million people who live within a 14-mile radius." Security lapses at the plant allowed reporters from the New York Times to drive "back and forth for five minutes, snapping photos with a camera the size of a large sidearm," then leave without being approached.
