Business Wire, May 16, 2005
LOS ANGELES -- At the 11th annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), to be held May 18-20 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, Sorrent, Inc., a leading creator and global publisher of mobile entertainment, will showcase upcoming titles for the second half of 2005.
"With E3 right around the corner, cellphone companies are starting to herald their 2005 product catalogs, and from first glance, Sorrent's is looking mighty deep," said IGN.com's Levi Buchanan. "The mobile maker seems to have all audiences covered."
Key titles that Sorrent will preview at E3 include:
--Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Mobile (Atari Booth - Petree Hall #4003) - A fusion of urban art, music and gaming all on a mobile phone. Based on the collaboration between Marc Ecko and Atari, Getting Up: Mobile pays homage to graffiti's rich culture through a graphically-rich, engaging game that puts gamers in the shoes of the game's central character, Trane. The player explores a world where the freedom of expression has been suppressed, using Trane's high-wire graffiti talents to expose and rid the city of its tyrannical government. Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Mobile will launch day and date with Atari's console version in September.
--FOX Sports Football '06 (Macrospace at UK State of Play - West Hall #2316) - The flagship title in Sorrent's award-winning series of FOX Sports games returns with fast and furious, over-the-top football action. FOX Sports Football continues to bring the heat with blazing passes, diving tackles, speed bursts and big hits. Elevating its game, the series delivers a host of new features including instant replay, fumbles and interceptions, special teams and an enhanced menu system.
--Kingdom of Heaven (Macrospace at UK State of Play - West Hall #2316) - The latest title from Sorrent's partnership with Twentieth Century Fox, IGN.com named Kingdom of Heaven Editor's Choice and called it "a solid game to the core." Based on the epic Ridley Scott film starring Orlando Bloom and Eva Green, this action puzzler uses crisp visuals and MP3 audio to deliver a deep and engaging adventure through the war-torn streets of Jerusalem. "Kingdom of Heaven successfully walks the precarious tightrope that so many action/puzzle games topple from," IGN.com said.
--Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends Balloon Bonanza (Macrospace at UK State of Play - West Hall #2316) - Based on one of the hottest new Cartoon Network properties, players collect candy and rescue friends as they float upward watching out for spikes, buzzing saws and other hazards. Super simple controls make for easy gameplay, while the in-game level generator and special bonus levels ensure that no two games are the same.
--Ancient Empires II (Macrospace at UK State of Play - West Hall #2316) - This epic sequel to the award-winning original Macrospace title Ancient Empires brings together evolved, intelligent gameplay and a compelling and involving story. Featuring more than 15 hours of exciting gameplay as well as a four-player skirmish mode, downloadable maps, and the ability to choose different troops and battle strategies help gamers lead their army to victory.
--Speedball 2 (Macrospace at UK State of Play - West Hall #2316) - Based on the legendary Bitmap Brothers game of the same name, the mobile adaptation of Speedball 2 holds true to the classic gameplay and style that made Bitmap Brothers such an acclaimed development team. The brutal team-based sport requires players to score goals while punching and kicking their way to victory.
--AstroPop (Macrospace at UK State of Play - West Hall #2316) - Based on the PopCap title that PC World Magazine named among the "Top Downloads of 2004," AstroPop Mobile is an action puzzler that uses simple aim-and-shoot mechanics that reward strategy but doesn't require it. With three Astro-pilots, three distinct SUPA weapons and two modes of play, AstroPop Mobile's gameplay is truly limitless.
--Blackjack Hustler (Macrospace at UK State of Play - West Hall #2316) - A unique storyline and humorous characters set the stage for this most unusual mobile blackjack game. Players can select from several personalities to live as on the blackjack circuit and get the chance to win virtual cars, houses and more, while losers will find themselves at the pawn shop to pay off debts before they can get back to the table.
"2005 was a pivotal year in the evolution of the mobile platform. Sorrent made huge strides in the quality and depth of gameplay, demonstrating our distinct ability to create hits," said Robert Nashak, senior vice president of production, Sorrent. "Sorrent's games are among the highest-rated in the industry, and our lineup for the second half of the year is on track to exceed everyone's expectations of what can be done on the mobile platform."
