NuView Leads Data Management Market, Unveils StorageX 5.6 for Remote Site Data Management
Business Wire, May 19, 2005
HOUSTON -- StorageX 5.6 Provides Increased Support for Remote Site Data Management Through Integration with Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) and Network Appliance Snapshots
NuView, Inc., a leading provider of solutions designed to simplify enterprise data management, today announced the availability of StorageX version 5.6 (StorageX 5.6). With more than 300 enterprise-level customers worldwide across all verticals, this release of StorageX solidifies continued dominance as the most widely adopted data management solution by enhancing functionality related to effectively managing remote site data within the enterprise.

Recent studies suggest that 88% of enterprise businesses have remote locations; this number grew by 7% in 2004. Local file-level backup and restore processes conducted on a daily basis at these remote sites are labor-intensive, time-consuming and unreliable at best. Staffing and training resources to manage and conduct regular tape drive backups and ship tapes to a central location is a costly, inefficient approach which decreases data availability and increases the opportunity for error and data loss. Managing and protecting data in remote site locations is increasingly becoming a top priority and focus for enterprises worldwide.
According to Leon Verriere, Manager of Systems Engineering, Mohawk Industries, "When our existing file storage infrastructure could no longer scale to support data management at our remote sites we turned to StorageX. StorageX has enabled Mohawk to manage our highly distributed data infrastructure, spread over 500 remote sites, from one central location. Our systems engineers have fully adopted the StorageX Global Namespace as our preferred enterprise-wide data management solution. We are planning to upgrade to the latest version of StorageX so we can take advantage of new features including the ability to backup remote sites reliably through point-in-time copies. Our plans are to eventually eliminate tapes from all of our remote offices and to continue using the StorageX Global Namespace to increase data availability."
"Remote site data management is becoming a growing problem in the enterprise," said Rahul Mehta, CEO and founder of NuView. "NuView's latest release of StorageX solves the failover problem as remote sites are now able to failover to a central location. In addition this release enables remote offices to eliminate the need for tape backup leading to tremendous decreases in the costs, time and inefficiencies associated with backing up locally to tape. These major enhancements in StorageX 5.6 result in increasing the availability of data throughout the enterprise."
StorageX is an integrated suite of applications that logically aggregates distributed file storage across heterogeneous environments (different types of storage (DAS, SAN or NAS), from different vendors, across NFS- and CIFS-based file systems) and provides administrators with policies that automate data management functions. StorageX's integrated suite of applications includes: remote site data management; consolidated network data management; non-disruptive data migration and consolidation; business continuity; storage optimization; data lifecycle management; as well as data classification and reporting. StorageX provides administrators with powerful policies that enable them to perform the above tasks from a single, unified console without causing downtime to users. At the core of StorageX is the patented StorageX Global Namespace technology. The StorageX Global Namespace enables administrators to aggregate file storage across heterogeneous, geographically distributed storage platforms and treats them like a single file system.
StorageX 5.6 delivers the following new and enhanced features:
MICROSOFT VSS AND NETWORK APPLIANCE SNAPSHOT INTEGRATION
This StorageX release integrates with Microsoft VSS and Network Appliance Snapshots to enable backup of point-in-time copies. StorageX automatically creates the snapshots, replicates the files and also deletes the snapshots as part of the remote site backup. This enables enterprises to make a perfect replica of the data even if the files are locked by applications such as Microsoft Outlook (.pst) files and Microsoft Access database files.
DISTRIBUTED SERVER MANAGER
StorageX makes it possible for administrators to deploy and manage distributed servers from a single console (Linux, Solaris or Windows). The Distributed Server Manager now enables auto deployment of remote packages managing credentials and other attributes centrally.
REPLICATION PERFORMANCE AND MANAGEMENT ENHANCEMENTS
This release's replication best practice options provide enterprises with the ability to easily optimize remote site data transfers for speed and reliability. In addition to accurately controlling data transfers to minimize network bandwidth utilization, StorageX also provides additional control of file attribute settings during replication and over advanced settings, such as, what constitutes "different" when comparing source and destination files.
