POPULAR MECHANICS' Editor's Choice Awards Announced at 2005 National Hardware Show; 360 Degree Electrical Outlets and Shovel on Wheels Honored with Best in Show
Business Wire, May 19, 2005
LAS VEGAS -- POPULAR MECHANICS, the largest special interest magazine in the "real guys" category, announced the winners of its prestigious Editor's Choice awards on Tuesday, May 17, at the 2005 National Hardware Show(R) in Las Vegas. The awards were presented by James Meigs, editor-in-chief of POPULAR MECHANICS, and honor new products that exemplify innovation, invention, design and engineering.
"We're thrilled to recognize these innovative new products with our 2005 Editor's Choice Awards," said Roy Berendsohn, senior home improvement editor, POPULAR MECHANICS. "We pride ourselves on being on the cutting edge of the technology, home improvement, automotive and science industries, and the National Hardware Show was a perfect fit for us to find top-of-the-line home products."
Two "Best in Show" winners were awarded for the most groundbreaking products in their category. In the hardware category, 360 Electrical, LLC won for its 360 Electrical duplex outlets line, a revolutionary new line of wall outlets with receptacles that rotate a full 360 degrees. In the Lawn & Garden category, Structured Solutions II LLC picked up an award for its WHOVEL(TM), a safe alternative to shoveling that combines a shovel and large wheel to clear away snow three times faster than shoveling.
360 outlets are ideal for homes and offices where products with large plugs, such as cell phones and hairdryers, are most heavily used. The "plug and turn(TM)" technology allows for the insertion of a large plug and has the ability to rotate the plug a full 360 degrees to make space for another plug in the same outlet. Receptacles "click and hold" in 18 unique positions to accommodate multiple plug sizes and shapes. The patented design allows for devices to maintain power even during rotation. This technology is the first of its kind and solves the problem of low voltage transformers and other large plugs that crowd conventional duplex outlets.
The WHOVEL was designed to greatly reduce physical strain on the back and heart. The tool provides a shovel on a wheel that you can roll and throw snow exactly where you want it. It cleans down to the pavement without harming stonework or landscaping. The WHOVEL outperforms snow blowers and does not have any adverse effects, such as expense, fumes, maintenance or noise.
