Aliant Enhances Broadband Customer Experience Through Expanded Relationship with Motive; Canadian DSL Provider Signs New Agreement to Extend Self-Management Software to Simplify Home Networking Services

Business Wire, May 23, 2005

AUSTIN, Texas -- Aliant, Atlantic Canada's leading information and communications technology provider, has expanded its use of Motive (NASDAQ:MOTV) software to build automated management capabilities into additional Internet services, including home networking and remote desktop administration. This will allow Aliant to extend availability of its advanced customer support technology to a broader subscriber base, enhancing the end-user experience as new offerings are rolled out.

Over the past three years, Aliant has built Motive software into its broadband services to make them easier to set up, use and maintain. The Motive-enabled activation capabilities, now used by a vast majority of new customers, have helped Aliant simplify the setup process for its high-speed Internet subscribers. In addition, Aliant has created "Net Assistant," a branded support offering based on Motive's self-management technology. Net Assistant automates the diagnosis and repair of email, connectivity, and other broadband issues, helping subscribers get problems solved faster and improving the efficiency of Aliant customer service personnel.

"By providing the software for our key subscriber management tools, Motive has been an extremely valuable partner in the success of Aliant's high-speed Internet services," said Joe Mosher, director Internet Services at Aliant. "I'm confident that adding Motive technology to our home networking, remote administration and other future services will improve customer adoption and usability."

Aliant will now build Motive's management capabilities into its home networking service, enhancing the service by simplifying the user experience. This will allow Aliant customers to easily set up wireless home networks, connect new PCs and devices, and resolve many of their technical issues. Additional plans to extend Motive technology include permission based remote control support, and real-time 'Quick-Fixes' integrated into Aliant.net.

"By adding automation to its home networking service and enhanced support capabilities, Aliant will continue to build customer loyalty through the delivery of a more convenient user experience," said Sanjay Castelino, Motive's vice president of Industry Marketing. "Broadband providers worldwide continue to turn to Motive for managing the home network, which is a key component in delivering of advanced voice, video and data services in the digital home."
