eMagin Showcases Advanced Near-to-Eye Virtual Imaging Technology at SID Conference 2005; OLED Displays Take Users 'Inside' Their Work And Play
Business Wire, May 24, 2005
BOSTON -- eMagin Corporation (AMEX:EMA), a leader in virtual imaging technology, is demonstrating its new Z800 3D Visor and other innovations in OLED microdisplay applications at the 2005 Society for Information Display (SID) International Seminar and Exhibition. The company's exhibit is located in Booth 527 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston through Thursday, May 26.
The leading manufacturer of active matrix OLED microdisplays, eMagin provides microdisplays and modules for more than 30 available systems so far, with many more under development.
"We developed cutting edge active matrix OLED displays and prism optics which provide OEMs with the most ultra portable and power efficient format available. We've also developed near-to-the-eye virtual imaging engines and system solutions to help reduce the entry barrier for customers to enable access to high performance simulation and virtual imaging," said Susan Jones, executive vice president, eMagin Corporation. "With the new Z800 3D Visor and other products on the horizon from eMagin and our OEM customers, people will for the first time begin to access the power of large view imaging for diverse applications ranging from defense-security and medical imaging to gaming and home entertainment. At SID, we are showing how far OLED microdisplays have come, extending our technology into our Z800 3D Visor and demonstrating some of the fielded systems that employ our technology."
eMagin is featuring the following leading-edge display solutions at its booth:
Get Inside the Game(tm) - eMagin's new Z800 3D Visor combines brilliant 3D full-color stereovision with hi-fi stereo sound to begin to deliver on the promise of virtual imaging. Visitors will have the opportunity to try a number of popular games, such as Half-Life 2 (tm) and America's Army (tm), on 3D-capable PCs. The Z800 3D Visor combines eMagin's novel OLED-on-silicon technology with new wide-view lenses, state-of-the-art high speed head-tracking capability, flicker-free 3D stereovision capability, built-in noise-canceling microphone, hi-fi stereo sound, and low-power USB compatibility. The effect is equivalent to viewing a 105-inch screen at 12 feet, but with an image that moves as your head moves to effectively completely surround you with screens. eMagin is now taking orders for its Z800 3D Visor at www.3dvisor.com.
Wide Field of View Optics - eMagin's new 40 degree field of view optic with large eyebox and eye relief will be demonstrated in the Z800 3D Visor. These wide field of view optics are now available for sale as standalone or mounted to eMagin's SVGA OLED displays to create near-to-eye virtual imaging engines.
UXGA Microdisplays - Applying its fiber-optic taper technology, eMagin effectively tiles microdisplays to create UXGA (over 5.7 million individually controlled picture elements, each with high speed 256-gray level capability per color) and larger displays. The taper technology can enable larger or smaller diagonal individual displays, as well as tiled configurations in UXGA and higher resolutions. The technology also accommodates special orders for custom applications, such as panoramic viewers or convex and concave surfaces to work with specialized lenses.
See-Through Display - A new OEM customer's product employing eMagin OLED microdisplays, the Liteye 500 illustrates the flexibility of virtual imaging systems, offering both augmented reality and an occluded mode for standard near-eye applications.
Computing, Virtually, Anywhere - Illustrating another frontier for virtual imaging and wearable computing, the Liteye 400, based on eMagin displays, delivers critical visual information in full color at full-screen resolution. This display will be shown under water, emphasizing the ruggedness of eMagin's OLEDs and Liteye's system.
About eMagin Corporation
A leader in virtual imaging technology, eMagin integrates high-resolution OLED microdisplays, magnifying optics, and systems technologies to create a virtual image that appears comparable to that of a computer monitor or a large-screen television. With unique technology for producing high-performance small molecule OLED-on-silicon microdisplays and related optical systems, eMagin is the only company to supply these displays in commercial quantities to OEMs. In addition, the company sells integrated modules to military, industrial and medical customers, and has recently announced its first consumer system, the Z800 3D Visor. eMagin's microdisplay operations are co-located with IBM on its campus in East Fishkill, N.Y.
