CEA Wins Award for DTV Education Efforts; NACAA Honors FCC and CEA for Consumer Education Partnership
Business Wire, May 24, 2005
ARLINGTON, Va. -- The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announced today that the association has been chosen by the National Association of Consumer Agency Administrators (NACAA) to receive the "Achievement in Consumer Education" (ACE) Award. NACAA is recognizing CEA for its work with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to educate consumers about digital television.
The award specifically honors Digital Television: Tomorrow's TV Today, created and sponsored by the FCC and CEA. The program provides consumers with information about the transition from analog to digital television (DTV). It seeks to help consumers better understand the sometimes confusing landscape of new technology, terminology and products.
"The ACE Award goes to the best and most comprehensive consumer education effort. Our judges felt that this consumer education program, detailing the transition from analog to digital television was informative, easy to understand and effective," said Elizabeth Owen, NACAA executive director.
"It is a great honor for CEA to receive this special recognition from NACAA. We are very proud of our partnership with the FCC and the campaign we have undertaken," said Gary Shapiro, CEA President and CEO. "We take very seriously our leadership in educating consumers about the DTV transition. Our partnership with the FCC is a critical and natural outgrowth of the many initiatives and programs we have created over the past several years aimed at increasing consumer and retailer awareness and understanding of DTV. We look forward to continuing in this leadership role as the transition moves forward."
CEA's wealth of voluntary educational and promotional initiatives includes websites, printed collateral and regional meetings. CEA currently operates four websites that promote the DTV transition through consumer and dealer education. The websites include www.antennaweb.org, www.ceknowhow.com, www.connectionsguide.com and www.ce.org/hdtv. CEA continues to take the DTV message on the road by hosting regional "HDTV Updates" with local retailers, broadcasters, manufacturer representatives, and cable and satellite providers. CEA also publishes a number of articles to educate consumers and retailers. CEA and DTV equipment manufacturers remain committed to leading the way in providing point-of-sale educational materials and overall HDTV promotion and DTV transition education.
The award will be presented at NACAA's annual awards luncheon, to be held in conjunction with NACAA's annual meeting, in New Orleans on Monday, June 6, 2005.
