Verio Continues Managed Services Product Innovation With Powerful New VPS Control Panel and eCommerce Solution; Current and Planned Enhancements to VPSv2 Solution Help Customers Build Online Business Presence
Business Wire, May 3, 2005
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Verio, a subsidiary of NTT Communications (NTT Com) and a leader in managed hosting solutions, continues to build on its 2005 product initiatives with its latest Virtual Private Server (VPS) enhancements that ease Web server administration and maintenance tasks, and provide new tools to help customers and resellers build their business online. All current enhancements are applicable to Verio's VPS version 2 (v2) offerings.
"As the company that invented and introduced VPS to the marketplace, Verio continues to deliver service enhancements important to our customers," said David Chao, vice president of product management for Verio. "By offering businesses and resellers new utilities, such as our new control panel that makes it easier to utilize the power of a VPS, and e-commerce enabling tools, Verio helps customers to build and grow their online business presence. Companies are able to leave the heavy lifting to Verio while getting their solutions off the ground quickly, but with the ability to make the changes they need to easily manage business and user requirements."
Chao noted that in 2005, Verio plans to introduce new solutions-oriented product offerings based on the VPS. These vertical market-oriented services are designed to meet the growing needs of small to medium size companies. "Small to midsize companies continue to demonstrate they want products suited to their Web hosting needs, not just disk space and bandwidth. Coupled with a strong set of managed services, these solutions will make it easy for customers to focus on building their business instead of managing a Web server," Chao said.
Current enhancements to Verio's VPS v2 include the addition of a powerful new VPS control panel and e-commerce services.
To simplify administrative tasks for VPS, Verio has introduced its next generation control panel. This intuitive Web interface makes it easier to set up and administer the VPS, and creates a comfortable environment for less-technical users to take advantage of the power of the server. By providing access to the most commonly used functionality of the VPS through a Web browser interface, the control panel enables end users to configure and access their email, manage files on their Web server, perform organizational tasks, and even make simple changes to a Web site.
For Verio resellers, the VPS control panel is designed to provide a high level of customization to suit the needs of their specific business. Resellers can tailor the functionality of the control panel to limit the amount of access customers have to specific functionality within a VPS, or make new functionality available. Resellers may also now authorize end users to handle the day-to-day management of their own sites, so that much of the burden has been lifted off of resellers who typically field simple, yet time-consuming requests from their customers.
The initial release of the control panel contains several modules, including:
--Webmail - a full-featured email management interface to read, store and compose email, manage folders, apply spam filters, store contact information and manage autoresponders.
--User Management - allows account owners to add or delete users, manage domain administrator accounts and view the status of user accounts.
--Domain Management - provides ability to add or delete sub-hosts, set limits on the number of users and email accounts, and manage logs.
For online sales, e-commerce offerings from ShopSite are now available as an add-on to Verio's VPS v2, and will enable VPS owners to more easily build and operate their sites, as well as make the online shopping process easier and more convenient for their customers. The new e-commerce tools for VPS enable users to perform multiple tasks in the construction and management of their online sales, which allows them to more effectively transact and manage business online. For example, customers can create turnkey online storefronts with an easy to use store-building tool; place products on sale, offer volume discounts and create discount coupons; calculate shipping charges real-time; and download order and product information into Intuit's Quickbooks(R).
About VPS
Verio's VPS is a managed hosting environment that divides a single physical Web server into multiple "virtual" servers. Each VPS is a private and protected area that operates independently. The VPS allows multiple customers to share the expense of hardware and network connections, without sacrificing performance or choice. Although sharing physical server resources, each VPS is fully isolated with its own file system, processes, users, applications and resource allocations. This enables customers to fully customize their server configuration and choose the best applications and services to meet their specific business needs. The VPS offering features "fair share" technology to help ensure guaranteed resources for security and performance demands.
