Bemis Company Announces Board of Directors Changes and Management Promotions

MINNEAPOLIS -- Bemis Company, Inc. (NYSE:BMS) announced that effective today the Board of Directors has approved several changes to the board of directors and management of Bemis Company.

Board of Directors Changes

John H. Roe, a director of Bemis since 1978 and Chairman of the Board of Directors since 1996, has not run for re-election to the Board of Directors. The Board expressed its gratitude and deep appreciation for his outstanding leadership and service during his 40 year career with Bemis. The Board of Directors has elected Jeffrey H. Curler as Bemis Company's Chairman of the Board, replacing John H. Roe.

In addition, Loring W. Knoblauch, a director of Bemis since 1993 and Chairman of the Audit Committee, has not run for re-election to the Board of Directors. Mr. Knoblauch is a retired President and Chief Executive Officer of Underwriters Laboratory. The Board expressed its thanks and appreciation for his service as a member of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has elected Edward N. Perry as Chair of the Audit Committee, replacing Loring W. Knoblauch.

The Board of Directors is also pleased to announce that Mr. Philip G. Weaver, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, was elected to the Board of Directors of Bemis Company, Inc. at today's annual meeting of shareholders. Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is a global company specializing in the design, manufacture and sales of passenger car, light truck, medium truck, motorcycle and racing tires, as well as tread rubber and related equipment for the retread industry.

Management Promotions

Effective at today's Board of Directors meeting, two Bemis Company officers have been promoted. Gene C. Wulf, formerly Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer, has been promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Melanie E. R. Miller, formerly Vice President and Assistant Treasurer, has been promoted to Vice President and Treasurer.

Gene Wulf joined Bemis in 1975 and has held various finance and information technology positions within Bemis' Flexible Packaging business. He was elected Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer in 2002, and Vice President and Controller in 1998. Wulf is a CPA, received his MBA from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Dana College in Blair, Nebraska.

Melanie Miller joined Bemis in 2000 as Director of Investor Relations and was elected Vice President and Assistant Treasurer in 2002. Prior to joining Bemis Company, she served in finance and treasury management positions at Alliant Techsystems, Inc., an aerospace and defense company, and spent seven years in public accounting with KPMG. Miller is a CFA charterholder. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
