M&T Bank Selects Teros to Defend Against Phishing, Identity Theft and Brand Hijacking; Teros Web Application Firewall Blocks Malicious Cross Site Scripts and SQL Injection Attacks

Business Wire, Nov 1, 2005

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Teros, the global leader in Web application firewalls, today announced that M&T Bank Corporation (NYSE:MTB) has selected the Teros Web Application Gateway to protect the bank's online mortgage center from malicious Internet attacks.

M&T Bank Corporation has over $52 billion in assets and is one of the nation's 20 largest bank holding companies. M&T Bank is considered one of the country's most highly regarded regional banks, with state-of-the-art Web banking, an ATM network of more than 1,500 locations, and over 650 branches throughout New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia and Delaware.

"Web applications are the new perimeter, and the Teros Gateway has ensured that our customers are immediately protected at the border," said Michael Speares, Chief Information Security Officer of M&T Bank. "The Teros product allows us to provide our customers with the highest level of Web application security currently on the market, as well as to protect critical applications from known and emerging threats and vulnerabilities."

The Teros Web Application Gateway defends against application attacks that evade network-level defenses, including Cross- Site Scripting (XSS) and SQL Injection attacks. The Teros gateway defends against the growing threat of Cross Site Scripts with its SAFE XSS feature. Teros filters Web requests and responses, eliminating potentially harmful JavaScript and HTML.

Teros instantly delivers unified protection for database and application logic. Teros' Web Application Gateway provides a primary line of defense against malicious SQL commands which can be used by hackers to steal identities and compromise the integrity of databases. SAFE SQL detects and disables any unauthorized SQL code, thus protecting databases from Internet or intranet borne Web attacks.

"Banking is our number one vertical market, and we are honored to be the chosen provider of enterprise application security at M&T Bank. We are confident that our deep expertise and mature product line will deliver continuous protection to the online assets of this financial services leader," said Bob Walters, CEO of Teros. "Our customers love the way our appliances provide 'instant' protection against the most prevalent attack vectors -- SQL injection and Cross-Site Scripting -- and then 'learn' more advanced protection strategies over time. All this protection accomplished with minimal administrative burden."
