Business Wire, Nov 15, 2005
PARIS -- Datacard Group, the world leader in secure ID and card personalization solutions, announced today at CARTES 2005 that it has been selected by the consortium of Finnish personalization bureau Suomen PA Segenmark OY and Sdu Identification of the Netherlands to provide inline passport issuance systems for Finland's new biometric passport.
The passports will be issued using the Datacard(R) PB6500(TM) passport issuance system, which offers enhanced quality, inline high speed laser engraving and contactless microprocessor chip programming required for the highly secure, ICAO compliant biometric passport.
"Our industry leadership in providing highly secure technologies for passport personalization was instrumental in being selected for this project," said Wim Tappij Gielen, vice president of sales for Datacard Group. "In particular, our high speed, high quality laser engraving technologies will provide the optimum levels of quality and security required by the Finnish government."
In addition to the ICAO compliant security features, the passport will have a polycarbonate data page containing a contactless microprocessor chip for storing biometric data belonging to the holder. Inkjet color printing of additional personalized information will be included in the document. Finland will begin issuing the passports by August 2006 to comply with new EU passport regulations taking effect.
