Alltel to Provide Wireless Service to Assist Hurricane Katrina Victims

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Alltel (NYSE: AT) today announced it will participate in a voluntary federal program to help victims of Hurricane Katrina obtain wireless service.
Alltel will offer wireless service or credits for new and existing customers who meet eligibility requirements established by the Federal Communications Commission.
"Hurricane Katrina devastated Gulf Coast communities where Alltel has deep roots, so we are very pleased to take part in this effort to help the victims," Harry Bruns, Alltel's president of wireless services. "The Federal Communications Commission is to be commended for adapting the existing Lifeline program so that it can be an important part of the recovery effort."
To qualify for assistance, customers must be approved or eligible for disaster housing assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Only one member of each FEMA-qualified household will be eligible for Lifeline assistance.
