Major African Mobile Operator Selects NMS Communications' AccessGate™ Radio Access Network Optimization System to Accommodate Burgeoning Subscriber Growth; See NMS at GSM Africa November 30 - December 1 in booth D14
Business Wire, Nov 28, 2005
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. & CAPE TOWN, South Africa -- NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), a leading provider of technologies and solutions for mobile applications and infrastructure, today announced that one of the largest multinational mobile operators in Africa is using NMS's AccessGate(TM) RAN Optimizer (http://www.nmscommunications.com/NetSolutions/RANOptimization) to support the rapid growth of its mobile subscriber base by reducing utilization on its backhaul network.
NMS's AccessGate system has been specifically designed to optimize the transport of GSM voice and data traffic over wireless networks, enabling mobile operators to roll out new services to their subscribers more rapidly and cost-effectively. AccessGate can also be used to manage and minimize both capital and operational expenditures needed to accommodate subscriber growth without additional bandwidth investments. And AccessGate systems are designed to address the critical lifecycle requirements of telecom operators, such as simplified provisioning and configuration management, along with standards-based integration with the operator's existing network management infrastructure. The AccessGate solution has already proven its capabilities in the networks of numerous global mobile operators, delivering Abis and Ater backhaul bandwidth reductions of 50 percent or greater.
AccessGate is a perfect solution for Africa, where there is huge demand for mobile services throughout the continent, and operators are challenged to improve coverage internationally in order to provide customers with top quality mobile service.
"With the steady rise of mobile phone use in the emerging markets of the world, the demand for mobile operators in these areas to maintain sufficient bandwidth capacity is at an all time high. AccessGate addresses this issue by optimizing bandwidth usage to allow more subscribers and services onto the existing infrastructure," said Dan Daly, vice president and general manager, Network Solutions, NMS. "AccessGate reduces backhaul traffic without degrading performance or voice quality. With the rising number of new subscribers piling onto the network, AccessGate is the most reliable and cost-effective way for mobile operators to handle this growth, improve their customer experience and reduce churn."
