Cistera Networks Releases First Land Mobile Radio Appliance to Link Two-Way Radios to IPT Solutions

Business Wire, Nov 28, 2005

DALLAS -- Cistera Networks (OTCBB:CNWT), a leading provider of advanced IP phone platforms and applications engines in the Enterprise VoIP Telephony environment, announced today the availability of its newest applications platform, the Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Appliance for linking two-way radios to IP Telephony deployments. The LMRAppliance(TM) will be on display and available for hands-on demonstrations at the Cisco IP Telecommunications Users' Group (CIPTUG) Conference November 28th - December 1st in Booth 62 in Sand D Exhibit Hall at the Las Vegas Venetian Resort and Casino.

Two-way radio systems have been the communications devices of choice for emergency responders, and industries as varied as maintenance, healthcare, transportation and retail, due to their robust technology, reliability, low cost of operation and convenience. Customers in these market segments typically deploy a multitude of wireless devices including push-to-talk, cellular and WLAN. Worldwide, over one billion two-way radios are currently in use.

Radio communications have inherent limitations including interoperability issues. Linking diverse radio systems into the IP network improves and enhances communications capabilities while allowing customers to avoid the expense of replacing existing equipment.

The Cistera LMRAppliance with its LMRIntegration(TM) engine is available today, and supports Cisco's recently announced Internet Protocol Interoperability and Collaboration Systems (IPICS) initiative for converting voice traffic on radios and cell phones into data traffic to provide seamless convergence in an IP Telephony environment. The LMRAppliance can be used with the Cistera ConvergenceServer(TM) or on a stand-alone basis to bridge UHF and VHF channels, different organizations and even remote radio channels via Wide Area Networks.

Systems administrators can use the multi-cast administration tool to build virtual groups, and can bridge and conference IP Phones and radios together into conferences as desired. For example, separate Police, Fire and Ambulance virtual talk groups can be created for standard operations, but incidents requiring interoperability can be supported by the creation of superconferences such as "Police, Fire, Ambulance Combined" which allow direct communication between all members of all included groups regardless of device -- two-way radio, cell phone, IP Phone or web-enabled device.

When it is deployed with the CCS, customers will be able to enhance the functionality of the LMRAppliance by extending the features of QuickRecord(TM), CallCenterRecord(TM) and RapidBroadcast(TM) onto their 2-way radio network. This will, for example, allow the recording or logging of LMR traffic using Cistera's unique sliding-window recorder that allows administrators to break out recording sessions based on time and channel combinations. These windows are then time stamped for easy retrieval.

"Recent disasters have revealed critical interoperability, data integration and collaboration limitations of two-way radio communications. For businesses, these limitations represent serious problems, but for first responders they can literally be the difference between life and death," commented Gregory T. Royal, Cistera's Chief Technology Officer. "There is a real need for this technology, and we are proud to continue our tradition of being "first to market" with applications that expand the capabilities of IP Telephony."
