SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Strong Hitachi TagmaStore Universal Storage Platform Sales Fuel 7 Percent Gain in Share Over EMC and IBM, According to A.G. Edwards & Sons

Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, provider of Application Optimized Storage(TM) solutions and a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), announced significant market share gains in high-end storage systems for the latest calendar quarter ended in September, 2005. According to financial services firm A.G. Edwards & Sons (http://www.hds.com/pdf/age_report_110105.pdf), Hitachi Data Systems gained 7 percent market share in the high-end storage market in the last quarter, given a 6.5 percent sequential decline in EMC's Symmetrix high-end storage business and sluggish growth in the IBM TotalStorage DS8000 and DS6000 series enterprise storage offerings. A.G. Edwards & Sons reports strong sales growth for the Hitachi TagmaStore(TM) Universal Storage Platform as the driver of Hitachi's market share increase.

"With the Universal Storage Platform, we changed the storage market landscape with an innovative approach to virtualization, partitioning, and heterogeneous replication," said Dave Roberson, president and chief operating officer, Hitachi Data Systems. "Hitachi's strategy of placing virtualization intelligence in the storage controller while commoditizing back-end disk media has and will continue to resonate well with end-users. Our strong results in the quarter show how attractive a proposition this is to our customers."
