Ubicom Technology Selected for Two New D-Link Wireless Routers; StreamEngine® Technology Enhances Online Experience at Home and Work
Business Wire, Nov 29, 2005
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- Ubicom(TM), Inc., a leading provider of communications processor and software solutions, has been selected by D-Link(R) to add the StreamEngine(R) technology to D-Link's new wireless routers -- the D-Link Wireless 108G MIMO Router (DI-634M) and the D-Link Wireless QoS Office Router (DI-724U).
Ubicom's StreamEngine technology automatically identifies and prioritizes delay-sensitive network traffic such as Voice over IP (VoIP), gaming, voice and video applications while helping to sustain the highest possible wireless and Internet throughput for all applications.
D-Link's two new routers provide high performance and broad compatibility for both small businesses and consumers. The D-Link Wireless 108G MIMO Router (DI-634M) allows consumers to share a high-speed Internet connection throughout the entire home. Additionally, the D-Link QoS Office Router (DI-724U) enables small business users to wirelessly share an Internet connection and a USB printer with others on the network.
"Incorporating Ubicom's StreamEngine technology inside both our QoS and our 108G MIMO router provides expanded priority performance capabilities for network users," said Brian Larsen, associate vice president at D-Link. "Combining our award-winning home and office networking solutions with StreamEngine technology enables us to provide our customers with a real world value-added service that gives their critical applications deserved priority for an unparalleled network experience."
"The launch of these new routers illustrates that Ubicom's processor and software platforms provide innovative solutions that deliver easy to use technology with significant differentiation for our customers and measurable benefits for consumers," said Keith Morris, vice president of marketing at Ubicom. "We are pleased to partner with D-Link and help the company strengthen its foothold as a market leader with our StreamEngine technology."
In both routers, Ubicom's StreamEngine technology enhances the quality of bandwidth-sensitive applications such as VoIP, video streaming and online gaming. It ensures that the applications are given priority over activities such as file transfers or sending large email attachments, resulting in faster processing of real-time based packets, less latency and overall maximum performance. Tests have proven that during times of network congestion, StreamEngine technology improves the Mean Opinion Score (MOS), a standard voice quality measurement, of VoIP calls by up to 300 percent.
The D-Link Wireless QoS Office Router is priced at $129 and is available now through major resellers such as CDW, Buy.com and Tiger Direct. The D-Link Wireless 108G MIMO Router is priced at $99 and is currently available through major retailers such as Best Buy and CompUSA.
About StreamEngine(R) Technology
StreamEngine(R) technology delivers an enhanced online experience by employing powerful Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms. The key to making this useable for a home or small office is Intelligent Stream Handling, a patent-pending algorithm which automatically manages the flow of traffic going to the Internet, without the need for user configuration. As a result, real-time, interactive traffic, such as gaming, VoIP and video conferencing, are automatically given the appropriate priority when other users and applications use the network. In addition, Intelligent Stream Handling minimizes the impact of large packet, lower priority traffic on latency-sensitive traffic and eliminates delays caused by DSL or cable modem connections. StreamEngine(R) effectively eliminates the lag and breakup problem in online gaming and other voice/video applications.
